CannonCougar85Craig Thompson recently heard about the rumors that BYU might be joining the Big 12. Upon hearing these rumors he immediately placed a phone call to the University of Texas and invited them to join the Mountain West Conference. The call went something like this:
Thompson: "Hello this is Craig Thompson from the Mountain West Conference and I would like to officially extend the invitation for the University of Texas to join the Mountain West Conference."
Texas: "..."
Thompson: "Umm...hello?"
Texas: "Who did you say you were?"
Thompson: "Craig Thompson."
Texas: "And who do you represent?"
Thompson: "The Mountain West Conference. Above the Rest!"
Texas: "...Please hold."
Thompson: Hums the UNLV fight song while he waits.
Texas: "You still there?"
Thompson: "Yes indeedee!"
Texas: "Who are you?"
Thompson: "Craig Thompson."
Texas: "And you represent what conference? The WAC?"
Thompson: "No, the Mountain West Conference."
Texas: "The what?"
Thompson: "The Mountain West Conference. Headquartered in Denver, we've got teams like Wyoming, Colorado State, UNLV, and most recently Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada.
Texas: "Please hold while we verify that those teams exist..."
Thompson: Runs a comb through his hair while he waits.
Texas: "Well wouldn't you know it, there is such a thing as the Mountain West Conference. We just thought it was Oklahoma prank calling us again."
Thompson: "Oh we are very real and we're Above the Rest!"
Texas: "Well we are sorry Mr. Thompson, the University of Texas is committed to academic and athletic excellence and accepting an invite to your conference would show that we, well, have given up on life. With that in mind we must decline your offer and ask that you never call us again. Ever. For any reason."
Thompson: "Well I am very sorry to hear that and I must say that you will live to regret this decision. If you ever change your mind, I'll be waiting for you. Have a good day."
Texas: "Wait, Mr. Thompson?"
Thompson with a big grin: "Yes?"
Texas: "Do you happen to have the number for Tom Holmoe? We hear that his broadcast facility at BYU is the best in the west and that he is the guy to talk to about starting your own sports network."
Thompson: "..."
Texas: "Mr. Thompson?"
Thompson: *click*
