This from TBS and CB, both citing a connected BYU booster--that the assurances that BYU requested from Texas and OU have been given, that the core aspects of the deal is in place and that BYU to Big XII is basically happening. Really soon.

For what it is worth, I ran this by my little bro who is often a great source for me, who works with a few former BYU football players and 1 well connected CC booster, and he said they all heard the same.

I still feel bad for WCC. We told them we weren't using them as a stepping stone and then did just that. Sorry guys. Hello Big 12!

The thing is, we were using them as a stepping stone. This whole thing in independance was to place ourselves in a situation to get into a BCS conference. We would have never been at the front of conversations buried in the MWC. Everyone involved intimately in the independance/WCC thing knew that BYU was looking for a better place to land by declaring independance. IMO, the WCC isn't surprised by this at all, maybe that it happened this fast but really not surprised. BYU couldn't tell its fan base and the whole world that we are only leaving the MWC to try to get ourselves into a BCS conference in a few years, they had to sell that they were doing this for the long haul because no one was beating down our door last year. Anyway, just a small rant.

Alright now I'm freaking out. I wasn't so sure about independence when it first happened and then when I learned all the details I was convinced and I'm sure the same thing is going to happen here. I just wish I could have seen the 2013 home schedule... oh wait I'd be on my mission anyway. Oh well at least I will get to enjoy Independence.

How's that for getting the :utard: Pac12 monkey off our backs. We'll take your USC and raise you a Texas and an Oklahoma with more money! HAHAHAHA :evil:

Any idea as to when this will take place? I was hoping today. Looks more like next weekm any indication as to whether other teams will join ie. Notre dame?

Way to screw up my Thursday night, Lawboy! After about my 30th visit to CougarCorner today I had pretty much decided there will be no news worth any reaction - it's been just basic hashing out what we already know. Then you go and drop this little tidbit on me. I won't be able to sleep tonight. I have a presentation to make at RoundTable tonight and I'm sure I'll mess it up because my heart is with the Cougs - wherever that might be!

Agreed. I was going to go out and mow my lawn tonight, get some sprinkler parts tomorrow and go camping with the wife and kid Friday night so I could get out of the house and let go of all of this... now its nigh impossible to do those things without only thinking about the possibility of being in the big xii. Thanks alot lawboy ;)

Why is everybody flipping their collective lid on this? I respect/trust lawboy, but this seems just as unsubstantiated as all the other rumors flying around.

The old saying: anticipation is greater than the realization. By the time you get off your mission, we will have new stuff to "freak out" about. Just roll around in this and enjoy it like playing at the park. :)

Hence the well-chosen thread title of "Latest rumor" instead of "Latest sure thing" or "Latest Awesome Public Statement by BYU"

NO offense Lawboy, but I have seen and interacted with several big boosters who are big braggerts and think they "know" and "own" TH and BM. They could be in the know or they could be guessing--and maybe guessing correctly.

I will believe it when I see it. TH has indeed played this very close to the vest.

Iowa State fan and alum here. If this is true...WELCOME TO THE BIG 12!

I've been wanting the Big 12 to invite BYU for quite a long time, frankly I thought we were insane not to instantly invite BYU when CU left, but I think certain people in the conference fell in love with the idea of only splitting the new TV contract ten ways.

Been a big fan of a lot of the quality football played in the mountain region in general over the past ten years or so and really think it was stupid the MWC didn't have a BCS AQ bid when their champion has been significantly better the ACC and Big East champ recently. Doesn't seem like that will happen now, but at least three of the deserving teams seemed to have found a spot in a BCS AQ league (assuming this is true and the new Big 12 charges forward).

If any of you are into crazy conspiracies/borderline stalking, there are some rumors of a Big 12 plane being tracked to Florida today and we're wondering UCF to get into the Florida recruting/tv market???

Really excited if it works out and you join, only thing better would be if you still had a wrestling program. The Big 12 has 4 of the best teams in college wrestling history...but only 4 total and it's kind of our thing in Iowa ;-)

BYU getting back into wrestling would be awesome. Back before the athletic department got rid of it about 10 years ago, BYU had a very elite program. I would love to see it come back, but doubt it will. BYU has issues supporting non-mainstream mens sports when they start having exceptional success (see how BYU supported(s) its men's wrestling, men's gymnastics, men's lacrosse, men's soccer, men's volleyball teams). I love BYU, but have never understood this.

Hopefully that invite comes down the pipe soon!

BYU didn't kill these programs, Title IX did.

Also, mens volleyball is the opposite of what you state. Initially it was a very good, if not the best, club team in the country, then BYU turned it into an NCAA team where it has had great success and support from BYU.
