What does the WCC need to be happy?

It has been said that BYU wants to keep this relationship if we leave to the Big12. What can we do to keep the relationship? Here are some ideas. Stay a couple years before moving sport to Big12. Paid an exit fee even though we don't have to. Agree to basketball deals as OOC games. Arrange bball games with Big12 teams. Agree to play some games on kbyutv like their conference tournament. Or stay in the league except for basketball (I think soccer would like to stay).



Any other ideas for a deal?

IMO, all we need to do is be open and honest about what is going on. Inform the conference and its schools about what is going on with the big 12 and then consult with them on what would make them happy if we decide to jump to the big 12, then deliver on it. It is easy not to burn bridges. IMO, the BYU admin knows how to do that.

This plus ask our friends at ESPN, ourselves, Ok and Tx and KU to schedule some big opportunities for Zags, St. Marys, etc. Maybe we have the Big 12 give them Baylor TIC. Maybe Baylor, BYU, and a couple of WCC organize an annual tournament in Provo or Texas.

I like the tourney idea. How about a Big12 vs WCC game like the MWC does with the MVC.

If the WCC is able to keep their new contract with ESPN, they really won't mind too much BYU leaving.

What if we gave them BYU-H to take our place?

And my answer: ONe year of BYU. Dont get me wrong, I'm not thrilled w Big12 risks (if its true that we are going).

I am almost certain that BYU would have indicated and maybe even contractually stipulated that if Big 12 comes knocking, we would opt out. In other words, What will make them happy better already have been contracted.

Nailed it. Just take out the word 'maybe' and you're there. There is NO way BYU/WCC didn't anticipate this possibility, and, assuming either party thought this was even a possibility, there's ZERO chance conditions etc. were left out of the contracts.



Done and done.



That said, I do hope BYU makes a public peace offering to the WCC so as to smooth things over PR-wise.
