Official Announcement from Church leadership?

So I was just talking to my friend who thinks that the main reason that the CHURCH decided to have BYU go independent is for BCS bowl access. Then I showed him a quote from Bronco saying that it is for exposure for the church. So now he bought that it's for church exposure but he still wants to see an official announcement that says that the church leadership said that Independence is for exposure for the church.



If anybody knows where I can find an article showing that (from a reputable source) then I would greatly appreciate it.

Not going to find it. I can't think of any offical church statements regarding BYU Athletics.

Well, President Hinkley did tell the team that they better not "muff it" for Lavell's last home game.



That sounds like official Church policy to me.

Don't hold your breath on an official statement from a GA. The Church (through the BOT), prefers to just give TH or CS the authority to make certain decisions and leaves it at that.

The authority and the plausible culpability.

VH and MB sold the MWC and the MTN to the Board and they bought it. Something tells me the Board is just a little bit more involved this time and the Indy decision.

Cecil the Diesel was the one who signed off on that deal.

My bad. That guy. Sold it and signed it.

It was the right call at the time too and I think they know that.

IMO it was right for conference affiliation and team sports. For the media arrangements it was embarrassing and proved to be poor contractual knowledge and/or negotiations--and that opinion is shared by several on the inside who know.

The limitations that byu felt, and have tried to pass the blame to Comcast, provided a significant amount of impetus for the Media building and the BYUtv+. The Big brethren said, "no more" and voila, we have a state of the art broadcasting building and truck.
