We are going to know this week if BYU will be in the Big 12 or stay the course as an independent. I honestly don't care and am glad it is not me making the decision.

How about they at least put you on the advisory board to help make the decision. ;-)

Im jus glad this hullabaloo will be over.

As rumored, Tuesday the 31st was the day. Makes sense for them as well. I suspect that the Big XII announces new members tomorrow, and as soon as today. I hope BYU is 1 of 3 teams, and ND is one of the other 2. Long shot, but still a shot at it.

Heard that the BoT was to meet today, but also heard a prelim meeting is today, with big meeting tomorrow. Not sure which is true. Rumors all over the place right now, and I have no clear info on this to pass on.

Now that this first step has actually happened and the opening of a spot in the BigXII has become a reality, I'm realizing that I wish this happened next year. If BYU does get the invite, it'll be tough to turn down, but I wish we had more information--a year under our belt in Indy--before being faced with that choice.

All told, I really like Independence. I don't like the Uber-patsies we have on the sched, but TH has done nothing but make sound, reasoned steps all along the way and I don't doubt he'll make the kind of improvements we'd all like to see.

If the BCS were to blow up in favor of a 16-team playoff, Independence would be ideal.

And even though the WCC isn't a basketball behemoth, they have sufficient cred to get us where we need to go--the Tourney--and I love the alignment with like-minded institutions.

TX is too much of a bull-y. We don't need that.

I am just over it. I am passed the point of caring. Either way I am going to be happy and I am glad we have a game to look forward to this Saturday. Independence is great and exciting. If we stay Indy I won't be upset. Big12 is the Big12 and it would e nice to be a part of the BCS where we belong. Win win as far as I am concerned. But any decision we make is going to make someone upset. That is the downside.

Being indy if superconferences came to fruition would be worst case scenario for us. it would basically push us into division II status and destroy our sports programs, or, at the least severely damage them.

I agree. There's the rub. I think Bronco has this same thought: He likes independence--he's a pretty maverik kind of guy for being a BYU guy--but he realizes that superconferences will be virtually impenetrable.

But I don't think there's enough stability in the Big XII to turn it into a super. But if ND goes, so should we.

I'm guessing the Pac10.2 commish calls up TX, OK, TTech, and OKState to re-up their bid to become the first Super. If ND and BYU turn the Big XII down, they might just jump.

Those four will never do it. It made some more sense when you had six, but just the four, never.

A Big 12 SEC swap (Arkansas for TAM) would be the best thing. It might even buy BYU a few years of independence before really having to make a decision.

BIG 12 with Ark is stable enough to last a few years and let the Big 12 be more diliberate about going to 12.

If you think BYU will say no to this offer, or staying Indy is best for BYU, you are not paying attention to what BYU and TH are saying--and have been saying--for the last year. BYU wants a BCS invite. The WCC was a soft place to land and is short term. Go read TH's comments at Media Day, go read the WCC commissioners comments on the day BYU joined the league. Everyone hedged, everyone acknowledged it could be short term, but everyone agreed it was great for now.

It was great for now with the chance of being good enough to simply be great indefinitely . It is high risk high reward though and bcs conference affiliation is a safer way to go.

Problem is the instability of conferences right now. The sec seems to be posturing to be the first super conference. If that is true, then the Big 12's survival hinges on Notre Dame.

I doubt Notre Dame moves. It might help their basketball to get out of the murderous Big East but football doesn't need to move.

If BYU could somehow get assurances that if the Big 12 dies they would always be linked to Texas and Oklahoma. Package deal. If the Pac 12 wants to go Pac 16 they'd need to add Texas, Oklahoma, BYU and a fourth. I don't know why Texas and Oklahoma would stick their necks our for BYU (forcing no Sunday play, accepting Mormons, etc.) unless our joining the Big 12 now and keeping it afloat for a few more years would really help Texas/Oklahoma out. Pipe dream I know. Think about that Pac 16 though, pretty good league.

Big XII survival will always hinge upon Texas and no one else. As long as it suits them to remain, the Big XII remains. Texas will form a new league before it goes to the SEC or PAC, and they have said as much. Texas wants their own network and income source from it, and that is a deal breaker for them in any league. Only Big XII allows it now and that fact is HUGE.

That's some "heavy duty" stuff. If BYU is offered - along with Notre Dame - some hard decisions will need to be made pretty quick. This is a tough call. I probably lean towards joining the Big 12 if invited. Even though I really like our new Independent status.

I disagree. If OU hops ship the big12 is dead. With both of them it will survive if they really want it to. If the future is super conferences then the big12 will have a tough time surviving without enticing notre dame to join. with them they can add and poach additional teams. without them ou will jump ship forcing texas to join a super conference as well.

Why would being indy be worst case if super conferences develop? Being in the WAC or MWC would be worse. Then you'd be stuck with a conference you KNEW wasn't going to be a super conference. Being indy at least gives you options.

If they're looking at going to 4 16-team supers, which current BCS teams are going to be left out? And if they're going to be willing to leave out some football programs, why wouldn't they also be willing to add some football programs? Why wouldn't you replace an Iowa St with a BYU in the super?

And if they go to 4 18- or 20-team supers, BYU would be in the mix as well.

BYU has more options now than they've had the last 10 years.

An offer would only be made public if BYU gave assurances that it would be accepted.

And why would an offer need to come this week or this month? Couldn't it come mid season?

The TV rights would be a point that would take some serious negotiating I would think.

Isn't that what we want and have right now?

Why would this be bad? I think everybody is forgetting a huge point here. If the super conferences come to fruition BYU will absolutely be included. Who thinks all the current bcs conferences will do is keep all the current teams and just add a couple more to reach 16 or how many teams they need?

Who really believes they would turn down BYU and keep an Indiana or Vandy or Kentucky. What about a Duke or most of the Big East teams? If you don't think the big conferences wouldn't want to rid themselves of that baggage and add BYU than we would really have a problem.

YEs, but Texas will make way more $$$ on their network than we will. BYUtv is not sports only, LHN will be. BYUtv will still be mostly church content, with sports sprinkled in. Not really the same at all.
