6 Bold Predictions for the upcoming season

Bold Prediction #2. JJ Diluigi will be the leading rusher



JJ DiLuigi was the defacto unsung hero of the 2010 season. It is likely that we would not have become bowl eligable without him. Despite rushing for 954 yards last year and gaining 443 through the air he never was able to get the fans support. Mean while, fan super-favorite Juice Quezada ended up in 3rd place on the team in rushing and 11th in receiving for a grand total of 564 all purpose yards. Compare that to JJ's 1397 yards and it's hard to see why so many fans were calling for JJ to hit the benches. Now Juice is a tremendous talent and will come into his own, but this year I expect to be JJ's coming out year.

oh, absolutely. Is there anyone questioning this? Fools.

I love "JJ." I am vocal about that - he really helps the Offense out with all the different things he does. He's a very good catching RB - he squirts - jukes - catches - is a great outlet receiver coming out of the backfield - finds extra gears.



JJ is a selfless, total team player. You go JJ! I hope he has a big year.

As with last season, I am on the JJ bandwagon. He was the heart and soul of the BYU offense in 2010. I would love to see him win all-conference 1st team honors - if we had a conference. Heisman ain't gonna happen. Maybe he ties Heaps for offensive MVP.

I was pretty close on my pre-season predictions!

He certainly was productive in 2010. What were his final #'s for this season? If its in the attachment I'm sorry I can't open it?

Did he finish on top for rushing? If not, why not? Seems like he got fewer carries this year as well as passing yards. If true, was it Doman's new scheme that decreased production? Or were therre other factors. Diff between when JH played vs RN? Still versatile threat. His skills will be missed but I don't think his personality will be. Alisa seems to be as much or better in production and that riley effect of breaking tackles and inspiring the team.

Add in Iona and maybe even Hine and I'm afraid JJ won't be missed much next year.

Here are the basic predictions:



Bold Prediction #1. Jake Heaps: 3200 yards passing, 24 TDs, 9 ints

I think we all know how well this one turned out. However, if you combine Jake Heaps and Riley Nelson this was about 92% accurate with 2940 yards, 25 TDs and 13 ints. We still have the bowl game which should bring the passing yards more in line with my prediction, but will increase our TDs over what I thought.



Bold Prediction #2. JJ Diluigi will be the leading rusher

JJ did in fact lead the team in rushing with 546 yards. He also had 259 yards receiving. JJ fell short of the optimistic #s I actually predicted in my original article, but he did lead the team as I predicted.



Bold Prediction #3. Cody Hoffman continues to lead WR

This was a bold prediction because of Ross Apo and the obvious chemistry he and Jake Heaps had. I felt it would still be our work horse, Cody Hoffman though, who lead the team in receiving. I was write, Hoffman ended up with 821 yards. Well ahead of 2nd place Ross Apo who had 453.



Bold Prediction #4. Ezekiel Ansah will record 6 sacks

This turned out to be the most incorrect of my bold predictions. Ansah recorded no sacks for the 2011 season (maybe he'll get 6 in the bowl game???)



Bold Prediction #5. BYU's defense gets 16 interceptions this year

BYU has had 13 interceptions to this point.



Bold Prediction #6. BYU runs back a punt/kickoff for a TD

Not only did we get a punt or a kickoff return, we got both! First time in forever and some change.

He's almost always one of the first "2s" go see the field when the games have been in hand and sometimes when they haven't. he's really hard to miss since he's a good head taller than everyone else on the defense. While i don't think he's been credited with a sack, he has been involved in freeing up other defenders who did.

To be fair, you almost predicted Heaps INT total for the year.

I watched with interest to see what impact Ziggy would make this year. I hoped he'd become an impact player.



I didn't hear much. Anybody have any insight about Ziggy's development & how he's impressed, or not impressed the coaching staff? What's the scoop?

He was not the Ansah many expected. Same issue as Jake Heaps. Needed more experience.
