My Very Own Freshman Blood

This is going to be a special season for me. I just dropped off my oldest son at BYU this past weekend. Over the last decade, I enjoyed watching him to go from being mildly interested in sports, to having a deep passion particularly for BYU sports. And now, he gets to live his dream. He applied to a few schools for his education, but there was only one school he wanted to attend. Fortunately, he was accepted to BYU.



I know he is excited about this opportunity for many reasons. He has several friends there, looks forward to the social scene, and loves to learn. He's not too excited about the gobs of homework, though. My wife and I just hope he will work hard enough stay on top of his academic game.



However, he is most excited to attend BYU games as a full-fledged student. He and I spend about the same amount of time scouring through all the BYU news, commentaries, articles, and spin. Every night when I get back from work, one of us gives the other the updates on whatever we discovered and found newsworthy that day. We have formed an enthusiastic bond with the help of BYU sports!



I am most excited that the games will begin this week. Bring on BYU football and all it's independent glory. While I may get to see a game or three in person, I am just glad my son will be at every home game. Look for him and give him a high five for me when the Cougars score yet another TD! I know, you have no idea what he looks like or where he will be sitting. So just high five a neighbor and maybe that will be him.

My son was born two weeks ago, so hopefully he'll be there in 18 years.

My youngest is a soph and didn't embrace the homework right away. Had to retake a couple this summer. We pray that he is not still there in 18 years.

Thanks Cougy_Monster! I would love for him to see a National Championship. Although, he leaves next summer for his mission. That may be the most likely opportunity during those 2 years. I guess we better just get one this year and next then!

My oldest is 11 turning 12. He was born on 9/9/99. He is learning to be as much a BYU sports nut as his father.



He receives the Aaronic Priesthood on 9/11, and to celebrate we are traveling up to Provo for the 9/30 game vs. USU, and then the next day we are attending Priesthood session in the conference center in SLC. It'll be his first live BYU game and both of our first live sessions of conference. We're pretty stoked!

Thanks dad. As you can see I finally got the internet to work in my dorm. I've been out of the loop since Tuesday because of all the stupid stuff that you have to do to set up your internet here.



Even though I'll miss the next 2 seasons of football after this one, I will still be asking members and investigators every week how BYU is doing. I would love to come home and see that BYU won an NC (or two).



I am super stoked for the Ole Miss game. Let's show people that we can play against ridiculously athletic teams and win.

Cool glad you have been able to make it to the promised land, but just remember, show up early, no pink shirts with "popped" collars, and absolutly no cheering for the :utard: in any of their games!!

My oldest is a Freshman in high school starting today. she really wants to go to BYU and knows she has to get great grades. Great to see her motivation. Her first day was remarkable for having the school change her photography class to business marketing, getting scheduled into a Mens PE class and having teachers who swear, including dropping the F-bomb on the class and then making fun of a mormon kid. I thought I'd at least get a few days before I had to make a showing at school, but I guess not. Sounds like I may have to track down a :utard: jersey to wear when I go to school so I can get in their good graces.
