One of my corpsman is a former WYO FB player.

SImple. Staley. The best non-QB fball player ever to done the Y helmet. If only he could stay healthy.

You'd think that. But the first person he brought up was Doman. He talked about Staley and Mahe as well, but I thought it was interesting the Doman left the biggest impression.

I asked him if BYU players were big trash talkers and he said "Not too bad. Nothing like Utah. Those guys never shut-up"



Thought that was funny.

Yeah agreed about Staley. Best athlete to ever come to the Y.

Surprising. Just look at BYU 2001 w/out Staley. Almost lost to UNM. Got killed by UH and Louisville. Doman was good. Maybe even great. Staley was a once-a-generation player.

Doman and staley worked well together and complimented each other. We all saw that Doman wasn't as good without staley, but staley was also not as good without doman.

Staley was a TD machine before 2001. I remember him as a freshman - seemed like he scored everytime he touched the ball.



Domon and Staley running the option was definitely awesome though.

BYU was better overall with Staley at RB but even Staley struggled in years before Doman took over as starting QB. BYU was going to have its first losing season since 72 until Doman took over. We shouldn't discount what he meant for us at QB not taking away from how good staley was either.

Bronco Mendenhall was NM's Dcooridinator that year and said that Doman was the guy who made the plays that won the game for BYU, which was one of the reasons he got the QB coach job when bronco took over at BYU. He said that Doman was really smart and a great competitor who just refused to let NM win the game.

Pretty much my thoughts too. They both made each other better. I think marketing did it's job as he talked about the "Domanator" poster, so maybe that's why he thought of him first.

I remember how different the 2000 team was when doman got the nod. That team did a complete 360 ;). Seriously though, without Doman, Lavell's last season would have been like rain at a parade.



I never really experienced Staley, he was hurt a lot it seems like in 2000, and I was in Ukraine in 2001. I seriously was like the Jonah of BYU football fans. My years at BYU were 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2005. :angry: I don't think I've ever been in attendance when BYU beats utah. So, for everyone's sake, let's hope I don't have enough money someday to get season tickets.
