Game Plan for Ole Miss

According to today's arricle in SL Trib, Bronco has stated that with the QB situation just recently being resolved that he doesn't envision the coaches throwing too many complicated schemes at the new, yet inexpreienced QB in order to simplify the amount of preparation he needs in such a short time frame.



"My thought would be, and what I think their identity is and would like it to be, is run and play action and try to stay as unpredictable as possible when they're going to drop back and throw it...just because of a new quarterback."



I imagine he is going to be testing the QB with lots of pressure from our LBs.



MS OL is quite good as Phil Steele ranks them as the 2nd best behind AL.

Should be a very good test of the stoutness of our DL and how much pressure and havoc we can create to disrupt their running game.

OleMiss OL is in for a battle. OMIP better hope his team is ready for a Bronco led D that is just unrelenting.



Can't wait.

No need to pressure the QB much until he actually gets called on to throw it and then shows some ability to actually do so. Ole Miss is going to run the ball a lot and their QB is going to do some running too. One advantage of having 3 QBs and no clear starter is that you can take more risk of sustaining an injury by letting the guy take off on designed plays or when things break down.



But if we knock one out early, and have one still in hand-cuffs figuratively speaking, the 3rd guy will have to become conservative. Clean hard hits could pay off for us in week 1.



The Ole Miss O/L sounds even better than our O/L. They will have some success because of their O/L.



Tough, hard-nosed game coming up.

Agreed. The key to winning is the defense. We are deeper and better up front than anytime in Bronco's tenure. It's going to be hot, so everyone in the rotation up front will have to contribute. If UM can't establish any threat of the pass - we are going to load up and stuff the run. Make stops and get off the field.



Offensively, I can't wait! UM fans are worried about stopping the run, but BYU had a running game last year, and I think the run game will be even better this year. I'm excited about our O.

The run doesn't scare us as much as the pass does. Damien Jackson is moving down near the box and Juco Aaron Garbutt, true freshman Chief Brown, and true freshman Cody Prewitt will be rotating at the Safety positions.



I think this will effectively help out on stopping the run. Damien was arguably the hardest hitter in the SEC last year, he returns after leading Ole Miss in solo tackles with 44. All the young DB's we've brought in, although young, are probably the best we've ever had on campus.

Make us fumble. And keep your offense on the field.



Our offense will score against your defense (if you are vulnerable to the pass, and from all I read from Ole Miss posters, they are still really worried about it).



If you give us a 15 yard cushion (again, many Ole Miss boards and posters refer to this being a normal thing) you will see 6 yard passes all day long. That was our offense last year, and that won't change much if you leave it open.



If you press coverage against us, beware, cause Heaps has the arm to go deep, and this year we have the speed (something we haven't had since Austin Collie, and 20 years before him).



So, don't give us the ball, with LONG and SUSTAINED drives and take it away quickly when we do get it.

And BYU's Oline is better than Ole Miss'. Both in best players, and overall grade. If we were in an SEC school, all our guys would be on one watch list, or another. I'm not kidding about that.

OK, that Oline is big and stout. Are they slow and fat? I could see them getting a better rating based on size. But as Blue points out, do they have any preseason accolades? it'll be tough in the trenches for sure. But our LB's run around the trenches.

Game plan: Keep the ice cream bars cool and we win going away: 27-13.

I know for sure Bobbie Massie and Bradley Sowell will be in the NFL, barring injury of course. Aaron Morris will prob eventually go pro as he has worked his way into a deep rotation as a true freshman. Mike Markuson is prob one of the best O-Line coaches in the country

Massie is the real deal. I saw him in high school and he was just a beast. Problem with him was always academics. No offense to you OMIP but I'm surprised he was cleared to sign with anyone. The whole ACC had to pass on him because he was a non-qualifier - I heard he struggled in prep school as well. I give you guys credit for keeping him eligible.

We need to shut down their run game. Period. On the flip side, I don't see us running very well against OM's defense--we tend to get little push against big defenses. Coug fans need to keep in mind that this is essentially a new organization and is almost as much a brand new scheme on offense as it will be for Ole Miss. Heaps hasn't shown anything against a top-tier defense yet and Apo hasn't proven a thing on the D1 level.



I am fairly confident that we will win but we can't afford to have 3 and outs in the 1st quarter. I think Ole Miss knows they are the underdog and if we don't step on them early they'll start getting some confidence and the game will be closer than we all want it to be.

Jake did pretty good against these teams, and that was under a terribly predictable and not so great OC. These teams all had better defenses last year than Ole Miss.

Ole Miss will not be good on defense. At least not in their first game. They don't scare me in the least defensively.



They gave up 150 or more yards rushing 5 times last year and 100 yards in nine of ten games. They gave up 400 yards of offense on average. Five offenses threw for three or four TDs.



I haven't read anything to believe they're going to be anything better than an average defense this year. Mississippi was picked last in the SEC West for a reason, they just won't be very good.

I don't know...I just don't see us winning by the spreads a lot of the fans are saying we are (2 to 3 TD's?)



I love our team, love our talent but understand, they have the same talent across the board in all positions except for QB..and their starter was at WVU..



I see us winning, by a FG, maybe by 10, but I have met some of the Ole Miss OL...and I felt tiny standing next to them. This will be a great game and one I am excited to watch..but my expectations are tempered for this game. I for one, do not foresee them imploding like the did last year against JS.

And that's another thing, too. Ole Miss' defense isn't very good! Why is everyone saying they have a shut down defense? Because they are from the SEC? They gave up 35 points a game! And almost 400 yards of total offense a game! And 550 total yards per game!

KENTUCKY 124 rushing yards, 300 passing yards = 424 yds total offense

Alabama 100 rushing yards, 219 passing yards = 319 yds total offense

Arkansas 197 rushing yards, 267 passing yards = 464 yds total offense

AUBURN 343 rushing yards, 229 passing yards = 572 yds total offense

LOUISIANA 76 rushing yards, 139 passing yards = 215 yds total offense

Right, and from what I read on their message boards, they don't expect their defense to be that much better.



They will "shut down our run" and hope we don't want to pass the ball over the top. :lol:

IF Ole Miss has indeed improved defensively, it certainly won't be early in the year. Their offense certainly wasn't testing them early in camp. IF they improve, it will happen after playing good offensive teams like BYU.



I think people might be surprised how well we play offensively.
