Top AP football programs of all time

College Football News created a ranking of all-time college football programs by using final AP polls and awarding 25 for a 1st place finish and 1 for a 25th place finish. They recognize that the poll was not always a top 25 teams, but don't make any adjustments based on that, so some fringe top 20 programs from the 30s-80s might be underranked because of that.

In the decades rankings, BYU finished #15 in the 80s, #26 in the 90s, #28 in the 00s.

Amazing that we're top 30 for the 00s, considering we had what? three losing seasons.

Don't know if 2000 is counted, but probably. So 2001, 2009, 2008, 2007, and 2006 had to carry the day and if 2000 is in then 2010 would not be. I imagine Utah looked pretty good along with BSU and TCU in 2000s but they were not up in the big time so much early in the decade and Urah has been hot and cold.

Considering BYU's complete futility for more than half of the AP Poll's lifetime, I'd say that's pretty good. As long as we're ahead of :utard: I'm happy.



There was an all-time CFB programs list on bleacher report and they put us at #25. Of course, they then lost all credibility by talking about Ty Detmer leading us to a National Championship (not the first time I've seen a website story make that mistake)
