How many weeks until we get ranked?

I think we will win our first 2 games and crack the top 25. Beating Ole Miss will be a solid win, but not enough to move up much.



What do you think?

Agreed. A 2-0 start gets us ranked. Getting to 4-0 gets us solidly ranked. Beating Oregon St will get us in the Top 15. Beating TCU and we'll be flirting with the Top 10.

One week. We will beat OleMiss handily while other teams are playing patsies. We will get in at 25 after first week.

As much as I would like this to be the case I think 2 wins/2 weeks is what it will take. I think Texas is just outside T25 in AP poll and #24 in Coaches. I think Texas will beat Rice on week one moving them into T25(AP) and then they will fall out the next week with us beating them and taking their place in T25. At least it will look good when we beat Texas when they are T25 in both polls.

Do you play on the team? I'm just a fan ;)

One week after a dominating win on ESPN. No ESPN and it would take 2 weeks.

Two, assuming we win our first two games.



To be ranked after one week we'd have to blow out Ole Miss, which I don't think will happen. Not that we aren't capable, but this will be Doman's first game as OC, our offense is still relatively young, and traditionally we haven't done so well playing teams East of the Mississippi.

Beating Texas will look good no matter what!



They are probably one of the only teams, if not the only team, in the country that can have a loosing record and show up the next season with all of the hype of a top 25 school.

If BYU looks balanced and strong on O, D, and ST in beating Ole Miss, top 25 at 1-0. If we need luck to win a close sloppy game, we will also need to beat Texas to go Top 25.



If we go 4-0, expect big jump and to be flirting with but not quite cracking Top 10.



Of course there is less that a 25% chance of us starting 4-0.

We will beat Ole Miss by 20+ points. This game is not going to be close. If we don't give up the long ball, then I don't even think we give up 18 points. I think that will get us right on the bubble. If anyone loses ahead of us, we may sneak in.

So this may be a huge upset in your minds if we beat y'all, heck even if we just stay in the game. I like this scenario haha.

I agree. If we spank ole miss and some other teams in top 15 lose, it will happen after week one. otherwise it will take 2-0 to pop in.



we need tcu, ucf, and hawaii to do well this year. they are all likely top 25 teams. oregon state and utah probably not. texas hopefully.

Two weeks. I just think it'll take at least a game for Doman to get used to calling an offense in an actual game situation. I see the game at Ole Miss being a low scoring affair with fewer possessions because both teams will run the ball more than they pass, with Ole Miss running it a lot more than they pass due to the QB/new OC situation, and with Doman being conservative in his first outing and not wanting to break out the full playbook until, oh, week 3 or so if he can get away with it. That gets you a W, but not a lot of poll attention.

I think that is a minority viewpoint. I am just hoping for a win. If our young team can go down south and beat ole miss it will be a big deal in my mind. I have no delusions that we will go down there and spank ole miss. given our history and youth, i just don't see that happening. the only that happens is if ole miss just lays an egg. i expect ole miss will come to play and getting a win for the y will be tough.



i believe it will be a close game with byu hopefully squeaking it out.

i predict byu 23 and ole miss 20.

Just in my mind. Not everyone here is as outspoken as me. I was the one that said we could beat Oklahoma, and had a good chance.



A bad defense + choosing a qb 10 days before your game + injuries everywhere (that sucks man, I feel for you there) = not a good time.



We return everyone minus a guard on offense, and almost everyone on defense.



You have a chance if our coverage can't figure out the deep ball, (our only weakness the last half of the year), but your run will get stopped all game long. So if you can throw deep, we'll be in trouble. But if you can't, you won't move the ball against us.

And I disagree with Doman being conservative. I can understand if he does, and wouldn't blame him for it. I don't really see him being conservative though. I think he is going to come out guns blazing.

I always choose BYU by at least 30 points no matter who we play. If I were to put actual money on the game, I would choose more conservatively. Although I want a blow out every game, a 1 point win will be fine with me.

Not to all of us; though, I'm frequently called a "realist" and occasionally accused of not being a "true fan."



Our offense is still young. Our OC is new at his job, and East of the Miss. we tend to fall apart. A win for BYU at Ole Miss will be huge in my book. If BYU comes out strong and smacks Ole Miss in the face, then I can see BYU running away with the game. If the opposite happens, it will likely be a long, close game. Everyone loves to play and beat BYU, so I fully expect we'll get Ole Miss' best effort.



Now, it's a fan's job to get carried away, so don't fault anyone for predicting or wishing for a run-away win. I would, however, remind everyone on this board of the time FSU walzed into Provo and ran up and down all over us. Even with Max Hall at the helm FSU had their way with us. In football, as with other sports, any given team can beat any other team.

Our CB's are tall, fast, and likely more physical this year. I don't think the deep ball will be as much of an issue as last year
