Ole Miss QB Mackey arrested

Looks like things keep getting worse with the QB situation at Ole Miss.

According to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, quarterback Randall Mackey was arrested late Monday night/early Tuesday morning and charged with disorderly conduct. The charge stemmed from a fight that broke out at The Lyric nightclub.

The TE was arrested the night before. Will they have enough players to play Sept 3 without those not in jail?

Come on...like these players are going to get suspended. It was just a little altercation - they will have their hands slapped, have to do 30 push ups at the end of practice, and it will all be forgotten.



This is, of course, an SEC program.

From what I have heard, I think Brunetti might be the leader of the QBs anyway. I suspect they will play more than 1 guy the first few games, though, to see who plays best in game situations.

The TE's was a public drunk charge, who knows what really happened. Same with Mackey, I'm sure they will investigate this and say something more later on. Mackey is prob the only one who may face stiff punishment.

Well hopefully Ole Miss can use this opportunity to knock one QB out of the starting race so they can get closer to naming a starter and getting that guy ready for the season.

I wanted Mackey to win tho :-(

Just saw this update in an article: "Houston Nutt was on 560AM in Memphis today and apparently told them that Mackey will likely be out for the BYU game."

NOOOOO. Ban him from the Southern Illinois game the next week lol.

Affidavit says Mackey hit the officer and busted his lip. Mackey claims to have been pushed into the cop. If he just slugged the cop I think he would still be in jail.

Have you read up on the LSU situation? Multiple players, including starting QB (who witnesses say kicked someone in the head), involved in a bar fight. Les Miles says something about making his team run extra sprints.

I'm surprised that Nutt still has a job. I mean, he actually takes team discipline seriously. Doesn't he know that this is SEC football.



In all seriousness, Nutt does a much better job of this then almost any of the other schools in that conference (possible exception is Vandy).

Yeah, leave it to Cheater Nutt to crack down on anything...



Here's a pro tip: when you have an NCAA rule actually made and named against you (because you are repeatedly lying to kids and pulling their schollies), you probably aren't that great of a role model.



Here is there to win, and the kids will have to pick up the weights in the gym, and that is it, instead of doing hard jail time.

I think most of the time when Nutt oversigned a bunch of them were kids who didn't qualify or agreed to greyshirt. I don't recall any of the kids complaining or anything since he has been at Ole Miss. I think it's much worse when you have a coach like Nick Saban who makes up a career ending injury to a upper classmen every year to make room on the team.

I have to call BS on this one. You don't recall any kids complaining? What about the junior or senior getting buried on the depth chart because he brought in "thug nation" in 2009.

Of the 37 players that were inked on National Signing Day, there are 25 players still on the team, which is exactly what we knew would happen.



However, the over signing forced players in 2009 to gray shirt or walk-on, taking scholarships away from the 2010 class, which was already three offers down due to APR issues generated during the Ed Orgeron era.

The 2009 class was so bloated it prompted its own legislation — the Houston Nutt Rule — which prohibits schools from signing more than 28 players per class, although we have already learned that is not necessarily true.



Nutt signed a total of 37 new players in 2009; a number swelled by a late recruiting surge that saw the Rebels get commitments from seven players, rated four stars or better, in the last few days of the recruiting period.



Those late additions took a median class into the Rivals Top 20.

Patterson had been suspended from participation in spring practice for an undisclosed misstep, one that occurred just a few months after his suspension from last season’s UAB game.

Highly touted JUCO signee Jamar Hornsby — let go by Florida when arrested for credit card fraud after tallying a few thousand dollars on a deceased girl’s plastic — failed to make it even a month from signing day before being arrested for assault. When the legal process ran its course he was let go in late July.

In-state product Tig Barksdale was arrested for DUI just a couple of days after being declared academically eligible to participate in fall practice. Barksdale is still enrolled at Ole Miss, but is a long way from returning to the football program after being suspended indefinitely for another transgression right before this year’s spring practice.

Then you add Mackey and his homeboys into the mix... Please, don't act like Nutt is in this for anything but a W. He'll let his boys commit murder as long as they don't get caught. And when they do, sweep up the gym for a week and then you are clear.



I'm sure with the Brandon Davies incident that went super-national, you understand what would happen if one of our players were caught in a DUI. All our boy did was have pre-marital sex (which he had agreed to not do, contractually), and he got the axe a week away from the NCAA tourney.

For one Barksdale didn't count in that class. Randall Mackey is far from a thug, he doesn't drink and I really think him getting arrested was bs. If he hit the cop on purpose he should be in jail for assault on an officer, not a disorderly conduct charge.



Pat Patterson was suspended and kicked off the team, Rodney Scott who was on ESPN for saving te Auburn safety's life was benched for fighting and transferred. Hornsby was kicked of the team and we kicked two off last year. We have like 12 seniors.



Barksdale was kicked of the team and went to Jacksonville St two weeks before the season and played RB in the game they beat us. Sweet revenge for him.



Also please tell me an upper classmen who was burned by us bringing anyone in. This year and next will be small batches of seniors cause so many are gone for discipline/grades.
