Tanner Mangum the 10th ranked QB?

Even more bizarre is the fact they didn't do a full analysis of him, i.e. no strengths/weaknesses boxes.

It was more understandable before all the camps, since Tanner was hurt much of last year. Maybe he'll still move up once the season starts and he can start showing his camp achievements weren't a fluke. Once he starts producing on the field.

The Utah recruit is #37. The Boise State guy has him beat. When they get on the field I am confident that Mangum will be higher than these guys rate them. Do any of you remember any of the other elite 11 and where they're rated on here? I would think that is more accurate.

Scout #1 Gunner Kiel was part of Elite 11 but did not make the final 11. (Before the competion he was rated number 1 QB on ESPN's TOP 150.)

Scout #2 Jameis Winston was tied with Mangum and Burcham as Elite 11 number 1.

Scout #4 Bart Houston was an Elite 11 finalist.

Scout #5 Zeke Pike was an Elite 11 finalist.

Just wait. They are waiting to see his full senior season. he will move up. remember he is from idaho and was injured last part of last year.

Who cares? He has proven on the field that he is one of the best if not the best of the QB crop for 2012. Let him come in under rated. More motivation for him, more flying under the radar for us.



Prospect rankings/star system is just a beauty pageant anyway - and is more about who is recruiting you than anything else.

That's the thing, he hasn't really proven it on the field. He was injured for much if not most of last season.



He's shown it in a bunch of camps where you're just making throws and not really playing football. I'm okay with him being #10 right now and waiting for him to really prove it on the field.



I think he'll move up if he has a stellar senior seaosn.

Actually he has proven it on the field, just not his junior year. As a frosh he led the State in yards passed--Taysom Hill got the all state honors as a senior, but you could argue that Tanner as a ninth grader was the better QB. He also had a fine sophomore year, playing for a not very good team...The rankers did not do their homework

It's fair to base players on their most recent season, Tanner was hurt as a JR.

What many don't realize, is that the college players that helped at the camp had their own vote and picked Tanner as the unanimous MVP.



He was head and shoulders the best QB at The Opening, Co-MVP of the elite 11 with biased NFL guys and MVP from the college players that aren't paid to create viewers.



The CO-MVP crap was weak and there's not a player out there that didn't believe that Tanner had the best week. He's legimately a top 3-4 QB in the country and scout.com is trash for not realizing it.

Ratings systems are dominated by politics. Politics of wanting greater access by BCS teams, so they rate certain recruits higher. At the end of the day, there is a reason why smaller schools put more QBs in the NFL than the big boys do.

Just a quick comp of how Tanner is doing vs the other "Elite" qb's. He hit 1000 yards in three games. Not bad and still seems to be outshining the others.

Any chance he can graduate early and be here for spring camp? We could use him! ;)

I think we should redshirt him his first year, send him on a mission for two more and then have him sit and watch his first year back so that 4 years will have passed since he started a football game. then we could eliminate his # of stars, #10 ranking, maturity, age, and preparation as a variables on why the offense would struggle in his sophomore year.

And thank goodness that he didnt throw a press conference.

Just a few quick scores for Mangum's high school team this year.

W Timberline 42-21

W Capital 42-39

W Boise 58-7

W Centennial 38-0



The most significant of these scores is probably the Capital game. Last year Capital was the first game after Mangum's injury and the final score was 33-7 in favor of Capital. The other scores have been similar but 10-14 points better against every team Mangum didn't play last year.

High school QB rankings are all a crapshoot anyway. High schools programs nationwide are so much more diverse in terms of systems and talent levels than NCAA FBS programs that highly-rated HS QB recruits are more likely to be busts in college than early-drafted NCAA QBs are to be busts in the NFL.



If Ben Olson and Jake Heaps (so far) are indicators of how well HS recruiting services rate QBs, then I'm not interested in their rankings...
