New Game Announced

It looks like BYU will play Weber State at home on Sept 8 next year, based on the twitter accounts of David James (@DavidDJJames) and Patrick Kinehan (@DJPKkfan). That would probably be the 2nd game of the year next year. My guess then is that Oregon State will be the opener at home due to the Pac-12's decision to limit late season exposure to OOC losses.



This might be the last game to schedule for 2010, but Tom Holmoe said on local radio this morning that there has been some changes with contracted games for next year. My guess is that there will be a road game dropped another neutral site game to be announced shortly. We shouldn't be playing FCS teams. And why would we play Southern Utah? We don't want to injure our future transfers!!! ;)

As long as it doesn't arrive to playing a FCS team more then every 3 or so years. I don't like playing FCS teams at all, but if you do, at least we get to beat the snot out of McBride. It falls okay next season between Oregon St @ home and Utah in SLC.



It better not though become a regular game. Weber St will never be a rivalry.

Let's be realistic. Most FBS teams play one FCS team a year, unless you're Hawaii, then you play two. Since it's what most teams do, I just want BYU to play semi-local teams.

Agree. It is the smart thing to do. The Utes will have a hey day with this rivalry renewal quote, but after getting a few laughs this weekend and the next 2 weeks till they play one themselves, win big, and then trip to USC, the laughing will stop in the 1st quarter of that one followed by stunned silence a week later, and then suddenly Utes will want to renew their rivalry with Weber State annually and drop BYU.

Before this game was announced, we were under the assumption that BYU already had 11 games scheduled and only needed one more game. I doubt this is it, or the announcement would have said something about the 2012 schedule being completed.



According to nationalchamps.net, BYU is scheduled to play the following teams, some with dates:



Sept 1 Oregon State

Sept 8 Hawaii (this has been changed)

Sept 15 @Utah

Sept 22 @Boise St

Oct 5 Utah State

Oct 13 @GA Tech

Oct 20 @Notre Dame

TBA @New Mexico State

TBA @San Jose State

TBA Idaho



We know that Hawaii is moving down the line somewhere in November or early December. I see BYU dropping either NMSU or SJSU (or both) and picking up a neutral site game and another home game (probably not an FCS team). Holmoe said that they have gotten out of some contracted games for 2012 on the radio this morning, so I wouldn't be too bitter about the schedule yet.



I think BYU needs to schedule like they have this year as much as they can, as far as the number of home/road/neutral games. They should try and and get 7 home games, 4 true road games, and a neutral site game every year. On years that they can't get the 7th home game, 6/5/1 should be the goal. As the 2012 schedule is right now (including WSU), its 5/6/0. I think New Mexico State gets dropped or moved to 2013 (which by the way may be the best home schedule in 15 years with Texas, Boise and Georgia Tech already scheduled at home, and a likely home game with Utah) and can pick up an interesting, if not high profile, home game (Army, Navy, Penn State) and a good neutral site game (preferably closer to home than Dallas), things will be pretty good.

So BYU followed the utah model. Throw in a Web St. hope nobody sees it (utah 2008 did not air WSU) and get a secret W.



Although, at this rate ESPNsomething will probably air it too.

Nope. They should play the FCS school with the largest audience (preferably not in the west) to get the most new viewers possible on BYUtv. The 2011 game against Idaho St may be excusable given the lack of time to set the game up. If they are really playing Weber St in 2012 somebody has forgotten why BYU is pursuing independence in the first place. I'd rather BYU play Southern or Alabama St and pay them an extra 100k for travel. Better for recruiting and missionary work.

Could BYU play Snow College? I'd pay money to see that.

Play Jacksonville St. At least they beat Ole Miss. And we would get some Southerners watching the game.

And J'ville St gave FSU a real scare a few years back too.
