I think they scrambled & jumped through some hoops because this kid is a very good athlete.



I'm glad Bronco found the schollie - and Sawyer took it. He'll make an impact.

He recorded a 124.44 overall, 7th in the nation but highest Sparq for LBs.

He is 6-2/205/Runs 4.57 forty, 4.25 shuttle, did 38 powerball and has 43.2 inch vertical at Sparq



Competes in track in the 4X100.



This kid is an ATHLETE and then some - not as big as Hinds or KVN but athletically as talented. May end up playing KAT like Rich and Sorenson.

I think this has to mean that someone else offered isn't coming (Fanaika, Lindsay) or that one of our current scholarship players is in trouble--that could be any of those that are coming late this year to fall camp.

Sawyer Powell is an Outside Linebacker, Scout has him rated #92 Nationally, 3 stars.

#1 rated SPARQ for any LB Nationwide.



He is 6' 1.5", 210 lbs, 40 is 4.56 - 4.6, 43" vertical, Team Captain, 3 year starter, & a BIG heart.

Interestingly, earlier today day a kid BYU was recruiting committed to Oregon State. Bronco's way of saying "In Your Face!"?

His family posts all the time on TBS and they've been very patient waiting on this offer but they know he's a big time athlete.



I think Powell will play Kat once he gets back from his mission, but he's athletic enough to play any of the backer spots, depending on the weight that he can gain and carry.



The only reason he's not 4 star is that he's not 6'3' 235. He's a tackling machine, a tremendous athlete, a workout and gym rat and loves BYU. He'll make a tremendous safety if he doesn't bulk up to play LB. He plays LB in high school because in high school he can dominate at his size...notsomuch in college but based on how hard he works, I'm sure he'll have no problem putting on weight if he's asked to do so.



This would have been a big loss in my book if we didn't get him.



The fact that he's willing top pay his way and wait for his scholarship after his mission means he loves BYU and BYU loves him back, they're just scholarship strapped for next year.



This does not mean that they don't have scholarships left, it means that they're spoken for.

Bronco said he was out of scholarships. Maybe there are other committments that we don't know about. The deal is Sawyer will pay his way the first semester and then get the free ride. shows how bad he wanted to come to BYU.

These are the type of recruits that truly fit in the prgram. Gotta love his attitude. Always wanted to play for the Y - knows that it is best for him and it felt right. Will walk on 2012, serve mission, return to play in 2014 with scholarship.

BYU was holding an offer for Biegel, and my gut tells me that he is the one that was slated for this slot, but basically told BYU he 100% sticking with Wisconsin, so they opened it up for Powell--who plays the same position. Powell also has safety capabilities, and would not have to add weight to play the position, just perhaps add a small amount of speed. IF he can to get 4.5, he would be sweet at safety with his size. IF he plays OLB, he will need to add 30 lbs. and keep his speed.
