Andrew Rich leaves NFL - BYU FB Coach an option???

He had made team on second unit - evaluated life - favorite time playing football was at Y. He will complete his degree and pursue Masters. Hope he returns to team and offers his help to Bronco - would be outstanding role model and ambassador for the university.

Wow! A very good write up by Wrubell. Rich has what so many people strive for - strength of character & integrity! An impressive guy. What a stud! I wish him well.

BYU couldn't get a better guy as a coach in my opinion.

He could have made the Cardinals from all indications, he was already on the 2nd unit, and their saftey just went down for a few games. What is this guys problem? He could have set his family up for life with a few years in the NFL. Heck Max Hall is making 450K a year as a scrub for them, Rich could have been a starter or close to it making probably a mill a year.



He can get a masters after he set's his family up for life, he can coach after he set's his family up for life. Wow. Does he hate football or what was his side of it?

Weird. Having another Y guy in the NFL would have helped recruiting more than having him as a coach. If it was playing on Sunday I can respect that, but I don't see any other reason for him not to play. What job is he thinking will help him improve his lifestyle? Seminary teacher? Weird.

His heart must not have been in it. NFL coaching and lifestyle is vastly different from college. And an NFL locker room is WAY different from BYU. Some guys may not want that locker room environment. NFL lockers rooms are mini Sodom and Gomorra's.



As to coaching, who does BYU cut loose to open a spot? Only shot is next year in a GA position. Otherwise, has to do something else.

Rich has the work ethic to do whatever he wants to do in life and 'set his family up' just fine. The last how many years of his life have been dedicated to athletics? If he tried it and doesn't like it then good on him for getting out now, he did plenty for BYU while he was on the team, he doesn't owe anything else.

Maybe. Nick Howell will prove to be very exceptional, it is often said that "he is the most prepared coach on the staff".

The NFL lifestyle and locker room are probably a lot closer to what is/was happening in Miami's football program than what is happening in BYU's.

You can buy anything in this world with money.

I havea high school buddy who is a BYU Grad, and got a degree in sports medicine. He interned with the Dallas Cowboys. He said it was absolutely crazy. Players watching porn--all the time. Players hooking up with random chicks, and trying to get him in on the action. Women throwing themselves at all things Cowboys. Hard partying and drinking. And some of these dues were married, although most were single. Said he hard to say no to booze fests, wild women and other crazy stuff on virtually a daily basis because guys wanted to involved all people on the team, or associated with it. And this was 13-14 years ago, so I imagine it is worse now than then.



Yeah, the $$$ would be sweet. And yeah it would be cool to play a sport. But I think it would be really tough for a single guy in the wrong locker room. Much easier to avoid stuff as a married man. Most BYU guys in the NFL are married, and that has to help them avoid the nonsense.
