Texas A&M to SEC rumors really HOT

Texas A&M regents are meeting Monday to discuss it,t hen talking with the Subcommittee For High Education on Tuesday, before it goes to the full legislature on August 22. They have until August 31 to bolt if they want it to be for 2012 sports seasons. Sounds as if Texas is fine with it. Other rumor is Florida State to SEC as well, which would them be at 14 teams. Florida State AD is Randy Spetman, who is a former USU AD--and he has not been available to comment yet. If it were not true, he would be available. PR 101. Question is, will SEC go to 16 or stop at 14. 14 makes good sense. 6 pod games, then 2 vs, other pod.



Talk is that Texas would want to get back to 10 teams, while OU wants to get back to 12. BYU rumored to be in the mix, and other sources claim that the Big 12 has been in contact with BYU. Big 12 ADs have a conference call today at 3pm CT to discuss options. BYU i watching to see what happens and the Big 12 may be of interest, but probably only if both TExas and OU stay in the league. Other rumors have OU looking at PAC offers with zero interest in the SEC. Reports are TExas has zero interest in any offers because they want their own network, and SEC and PAC deals would not allow them to use it as they want to. So Texas really will stand pay, and they will keep many school with them, like Kansas, KState, Iowa State, Baylor, TTech, and perhaps even Houston, should the 2 Oklahoma schools bolt. Doubtful PAC wants just 2 teams, and doubtful TTech and Baylor make sense for PAC without Texas.

Trammel believes that Y should be the first option to be added to the Big 12 because of the program and fan base. He says it is a no brained. Y appears to be a very valuable commodity for those who know much about the program.

Do you think there is any substance to the rumor that because we haven't filled up our 2013, 2014 schedule, that we held open the possibility of Big 12 invite if timing is right. I would think one of the conditions for acceptance is that we keep ESPN contract and broadcast rights to BYUtv.

Part of my conditions of joining ANY conference at this point would include the ability to negotiate BYU's own TV deal as long as BYU is in the conference. The way teams are jumping the big XII ship, I'd hate for BYU the last man standing with a crappy TV deal again in 4-5 years.



I'd almost prefer just remaining indy and seeing what happens. BYU is in a good place right now.

I prefer not to sail on sinking ships.

BYU going to the Big 12 now would be like Boise St going to the MWC. Good idea but bad timing.

To steal what I've heard on the radio and agree with:



For BYU to join the Big 12 they would need to get some serious unity and solidarity considerations, such as a massive Big 12 BuyOUt or buyoUT(pun intended) clause in there. Like $100M or more. There's simply too much discontent in the Big 12 for any of those schools to tie themselves down like that when so much is still in motion.



So no concessions, no BYU. That makes a lot of sense to me especially when our little Independence island has us VERY well insulated from the storm (who needs a ship!)

Texas has ZERO interest in the PAC. Longhorn Netwrok would have to end to join the PAC as they forbid schools to own their own networks. Texas is committed to the LHN, and ESPN i as s well. Texas will not go, and that means no other Texas school will go PAC. Do not see PAC wanting just OU and OSU, so PAC is stuck at 12. And with OU saying they have zero interest in the SEC, it looks pretty good that Texas and OU stay in the Big 12, which makes that league stable. Those two teams carry that league, and we make a solid addition.

Texas was offered but turned it down flat. Larry Scott basically told them no network, and that was the deal breaker. ESPN has already committed like $12-13 Million to make that network work. Texas is committed to it. And why not--Big XII deals in 2013 from ESPN will get similar money for member schools than PAC did, along with secondary Fox deal, plus LHN is rumored to be able to earn Texas an added $20-25 Million per year once it is up and running. So they get their cake and eat it too in the Big XII and nowhere else. Tht pus them FAR ahead of everyone else in terms of media dollars.



With that in mind, easy to see why A&M is bolting and why Texas is going nowhere.
