Ole Miss Players Taking BYU Courses

This made me laugh...

BYU has a pretty good online courses and he was a junior in high school when he took the course. He's a true freshman this year and hopefully part of a package deal for his brother Robert Nkemdiche who will be a top 5 national recruit next year. So I want to thank BYU for the help in getting the first piece of the puzzle to Ole Miss. :-)

This has happened before with BYU's Independent Study.

I thought the NCAA set a policy that athletes couldn't take BYU's independent study courses any more. I swear I remember reading that.

Yeah, wasn't there an issues with some players from Missouri doing that about 5-6 years ago.

The NCAA did come down on it. I think there were USC players doing it.

Yeah, goes to show how easy BYU online studies are, how little interaction there is with faculty, and how lack of set curriculum and coursework has been an issue.

I don't know that the issue is that they are easy, but rather that it's really easy to have someone else do the course work for you, and depending upon situation even having someone else take the tests for you can be easy if they are proctored by someone who has incentive to let an athlete pass.

I don't even think it was 5 years ago, more like 1 or 2. The NCAA came out and said that BYU online courses had lost their accreditation due to lack of difficulty and the apparent widespread abuse in athletic programs around the country for easy grades. I never remember reading about them getting it back, so they must have.



and yes, it's one of the largest online catologs there is.

I don't know if Michael Oher was the first but he made the Ol'e Miss — BYU connection famous.
