Bronco compares him to Manase Tonga - catches the ball well, blocks well, can run very well. He is a nice addition and has progressed beyond what Coach thought he was capable of doing. Sounds like a well-rounded player that is smart, physically gifted, and versatile. He will fill a more expanded role than Zed Mendenhall who is used primarily as a lead blocker. This also means that with the emergence of Iona, Michael Alisa's role will change to running the ball more. All in all, these players will provide more options to keep the defense off balance so that they can't key on any one player.

I forgot to mention that with our 3-headed monster at RB, we now appear to have 3 options at FB. Thus, opposing defenses must account for our running game if they are to beat BYU.

I Wonder if Alisa is fast enough or has enough talent to create a 2 headed monster in the future at RB with "Juice"??

Carted off the field today with a lower leg injury. Per Rumor Board it's a broken leg. Maybe Kariya can play some FB. It appears the offense was going to rely heavily on Iona. Poor kid. Who do we look to from here??

Yeah, I bet it was a compound fracture. The trainers were out really quick and were applying that pressure, air pumped cast almost immediately.

Probably similar to Javier Morales' injury for Real Salt Lake earlier this year.

tweets now saying "angle of Iona's foot" was wrong....

Sounds like a compounder to me. Amazing that we can talk about recovery times for something like that.

Also sounds like the injury broke Bronco's heart.

Does sound like the ground attack struggled a bit today, I wonder if his absence was a part of that.

It is a big disappointment and I was excited to see him in there but at the start of camp Z. Menenhall was the expected FB so it is a high and a low but it basically puts us back to where we were coming into fall camp. I expect they are going to try and get Alisa as many reps as possible as Iona's replacement. He is about as close as anyone in skills and size when compared to Iona. But what a bummer. Nice little fall camp surprise and "poof" the surprise is gone. Good luck Iona, youv'e got cougar nation pulling for your recovery.

Six weeks is very optimistic. Probably more like 6 months.

I have a little experience in the way of foot and ankle surgery. Trust me when I say that this injury is season ending. He may not even be putting any weight on it for six weeks. Complete bone healing in an adult is usually 12 weeks. Then there is the issue of the ligament damage that he would have sustained if the ankle was actually dislocated (I read that it was). Did anyone see it happen? I feel bad for the guy.

Jay Drew reported that Pritchard's injury was a fractured fibula, and a dislocated ankle, and he's out for the season.

This shows what kind of kid Pritchard is. I hate to see him out for the year.

Mendenhall described the scene as Pritchard was on the ground writhing in pain, and nearly choked up. "He apologized for getting hurt," Mendenhall said in disbelief.

I was with Hawkwing, Spiffcoug and Schmoe in the Cougar Corner of the stadium, and it did not look good. you knew when he went down it was bad. They brought the aircast out immediately, and he was down for 2-3 minutes, and then was carted off the field. The whole team was huddled around in support at the end. Really sad to see the injury.

Yeah. RLS' Morales broke his ankle (to include the separation) in early May and he just barely started running on it.

Wasn't Morales a Tibia and fibula fracture? I'm sure the recovery time for either injury is long though.

Bummer dude. Get better for next year Pritchard!

This is hurtful to Iona personally, his team, the coaching staff, his family, the fans - the whole Cougar Nation. This is a heavy blow to a 1st class guy. Best wishes & a full recovery.
