Should We Rename LaVell Edwards Stadium?

Before you start going off on me for saying such a crazy thing, hear me out. I saw this picture and I got to thinking that they should have two white stripes with steam coming out the top with a banner that says, "Welcome to the Quarterback Factory." Then I thought we could name the field LaVell Edwards Field and rename the stadium "The Quarterback Factory." We could drop the word stadium from the name all together and give the stadium a more industrial feel...what do you think?

BYU football is about more than just producing quality quaterbacks. Lavell Edwards - for intents and purposes - invented football at BYU. Keep it Lavell Edwards Stadium.

Agreed. Until another head coach can build a legacy greater than Lavell's (which is going to be nearly impossible for any coach at any program these days), we shouldn't even think about changing the name. And even if Bronco wins the national championship for the next 5 years and his players sweep the Heisman and other major awards, they are only able to reach such heights because they are standing on Lavell's shoulders. I could see Bronco Mendenhall Field at Lavell Edwards Stadium in that case, but you don't take the man's name off of the stadium that only exists in its current state because of what he did.

I agree with the previous two posts. I said what I said TIC. We stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us.

While I agree the official name should always remain LES, I think we need a nickname for the stadium like Florida (the swamp) or LSU (death valley) or OSU (the horseshoe). I would love to have it be something like "The Cave." This is the kind of thing that ESPN announcers love, and would be great on signs, and help to create an atmosphere at the game. I mean, honestly, look how much run the Utes section gets by just being named "the muss."

In my lifetime it is going to be named Edwards-Mendenhall Stadium anyway. Just be patient.

Why not just rename it the LaVell Edwards Quarterback Factory? Best of both worlds, no?

Totally agree. I think we be "the factory." I think it ties in a few non-related ideas. We have the MTC next door, which I heard termed the factory on my mission. We have BYU itself, which is the marriage factory. That is where I met my wife. And then I have heard the Marriott Business School being termed the factory by different business professionals through out the country for mass producing straight-laced, hardworking and ethical business professionals. BYU focuses on producing great under-grad degrees rather than post-grad. The factory!



In fact I think that should be the name of the student sections too. The fans should wear hard hats on game day! When we have to go play Utah in SLC, they would come in handy for all the stuff the Yewts like to throw at visiting BYU fans! :angry:

The hardhat idea is a great one. Can one of you graphic artists mock up a Y hard hat. Maybe work in some of that tan color from the bibs.

I like the factory and just call the student section the "Student Union" Where do I buy my hard hat.
