The best front 7 DL/LB crew ever

In which he opines that we are as deep as we have ever been on the DL and LB position. If this group plays with as much passion and attitude as they did towards the end of the year 2010 and the secondary also comes up big - we could have a monstrous year. We already know that the O can put up points. With turnovers and good field position as produced by the D, we could be a juggernaut in the making.

I too have been super pumped about this front seven and can't wait to see them shut down Ole Miss when I'm out there in a month. The USC transfers make up for some of those stars Harmon mentions we have lost in the past few years. I just hope they can bring a stronger pass rush and we'll see more sacks than in the past years. But with Bronco in charge I'm sure we'll won't be disappointed, remember Hill never beat TCU, but Bronco's D beat them back to back years in 06 & 07.

Byu.scout reporting that Fuga will be ready by fall camp - NT will be Fuga, Fangupo and Tuiloma. Ian Dulan will move to DE.

More depth this year for sure. Way too early to call best ever, especially with guys coming off major surgeries, coming home from missions and other factors. I do like our potential depth, but until guys actually hit the field and show they are back, it is just potential that we may not see until 2012.



People are drinking the koolaid awfully early this year, and I do not like it. The hype needs to stay quiet until after game 4, if you ask me, then let's talk.

I'm with you. Lots of potential on display, but nothing proven yet. Even the offense isn't a sure deal yet, by any means. They were on a roll at the end of last year, but how many teams did they beat that ended the year over .500?



Don't get me wrong-- I really want this to be a spectacular year. We just need to give them a few games to put things together.

I am drinking the Bronco coolaid. In fact, I am getting intoxicated by it. Last year, BYU had one of the worst defenses in college football.....until Bronco took over. He took over after the Dline and linebackers were decimated by injury and turned the worst run defense in college football into one of the best overall defenses in college football. This year, he has more talent at both positions then I can remember as long as I have watched BYU football (since the late 80's). I anticipate this defense to be very good this year and absolutely awesome next year. If the offense comes along like it did the end of last year and Doman becomes as good of an Ocoordinator as I think he will be, we may see a level of football that BYU fans have never seen before.

There is a chance that the stars align this year. the pieces are in place but i think we lose a few games this year and set ourselves up for a great year in 2012. new coaches, new schemes, young players. that together with the fact that most of our difficult games are road games are too much to expect one or zero losses.



That said this team should be very good and I would not be surprised if we pull off a ten win season or even better. there is a lot to be said about the excitement and chemistry building on the team this year. That effort could make up for some execution issues that I assume will need to be worked out with all the tweaks.



Fuga and Richardson won't make big impacts I don't think for a few games in. but even if that is true, fangupo is going to be great for us and from what we all heard regarding the redshirts tuiloma is supposed to be great as well.

I'm definitely drinking the koolaid. I can't think of a better couple of openers to break in a new secondary than teams with QB issues, that are thin at WR, and have new OCs. Oh, and Jordan Wynn. ;) Especially with the depth at d-line. I simply can't fathom the idea that Bronco won't be able to generate significant amounts of QB pressure when he has Jordan Pendleton AND Kyle Van Noy AND Uona Kaveinga. He can bring the pressure from wherever he wants - heck, even Corby Eason, if need be! - and it will get there in a very painful hurry. And at the same time, we should be able to continue the same dominance against the run that we saw last year. That puts people in obvious passing situations, which really benefits a young secondary, and lets the pass rush pin their ears back.



I really think all the pieces are in place for this year to be truly magical. We get 3 of our biggest 4 games when they will be most vulnerable. After that, the only game I'm even worried about is TCU, and I think we'll have that one circled on the calendar throughout the season. Brandon Doman is a competitive guy, and you know he'll be doing everything he can think of to reverse our scoring trend against them. And a competent offense will do wonders to help out our defense, which wasn't doing too shabby even last year for the first half.

Don't know how soon we'll see the impact, but I think that Tuiloma is going to make a career of wreaking havoc in the middle of offensive lines. If he's the back up, we have a pretty good depth chart line up in the middle.

Dulan will move to DE??? He was always a DE. Does anyone know if Dulan has a redshirt year available?

Dulan should have a red-shirt available. He was a true freshman (i think he was still 17 yrs old when the season started) in 06, played in 07 & 08 gone on the mission for 09-10. As for being a DE, his body style and size is more of a DE, but he has played nose quite a bit. But '06 started out as Dulan DE, Tialavea NG and Jorgensen DE

If he's played nose quite a bit then I'm not as great as a fan as I think I am because I don't recall it. :) Maybe you're thinking of someone else like Manumaleuna or maybe he played a few plays here or there when we had injuries and no depth at D-line?



On a side note, Dulan is one of the best pure pass rushers we have just not great vs the run. Let's hope he can contribute this year or most likely next and rack up a bunch of sacks.

Maybe quite a bit was an overstatement. I do however remember him playing nose because I remember seeing him at nose on a few occasions and wondering why they wouldn't slide the bigger guys like Jorgensen or Denny down and move him to the edge. But remember our d-line isn't about getting pressure as much as it is eating up blockers. Obviously it would be great to get pressure out of the line, but you look at Jorgensen after the 07 season. In 08 and 09 he two gapped a lot more than he did the first two years and hence his numbers went down. I wouldn't be surprised to see less two gapping because it seems to me that the two gap role seemed to disappear a little bit when Bronco took over last year. Either way, I hope that Dulan does get on the field and create some havoc, that dude has a quick first step and really good hands.

More like guessing that he might be, as I read it.

Fuga told my son 4 weeks ago that he expects to be 100%. I recognize that he could suffer from eternal optimism, but, he expects to be ready to go in camp day 1. If he isn,t ready day 1, then I worry about the season for him. I hope he was realistic in his projection. A friend of his family was told the same thing several months ago, which I discounted since it was so early, but hearing it again right from his mouth was encouraging.



I have a connection I plan to tap re health of another key player I worry about - Jordan P. Last year I heard about foot problems that I have never heard in the press.
