I am a bit surprised that Lynndie England didn't get any nominations for being a tremendously offensive guard. I guess we must not have too many liberal-leaning posters:

Any player who turns down the NFL so that they can be a seminary teacher does not get a vote from me even if they were the best ever.

Wow, he has some responsibility to you to play in the NFL then? How does that affect in any way what he did while at BYU?

Former players in the NFL help attract talented recruits. Having players decline to play in the NFL because they are not willing to play on Sundays does not help with recruiting. It perpetuates the perception that BYU thinks they are better than everyone else. I've never fully believed that he turned down the NFL for religious reasons. I think that he just didn't love playing football and once his schooling was done he didn't want to do it any more.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you seem to be making some pretty big assumptions about someone you don't know, not to mention you're essentially calling him a liar. I don't see how taking insanely less money and choosing a different future for himself looks like he "thinks he's better than everyone else," I get that vibe a lot more from players who demand more money after they get drafted, etc. Also, the question isn't "who has done the most for BYU recruiting?" or "who is your favorite?" it's "who's the best ever to play at BYU?"

Eli Herring was what 20 years ago. I doubt many current recruits have 1) never heard of him and/or 2) don't know/care that he turned down the NFL.
