Poll: High School Football on BYUtv?

So in this article there is a rumor Texas will begin airing high school football games on the Longhorn Network. According this article plans have been put on hold. The recruiting advantage from such an arrangement would be pretty sweet. Imagine Doman saying to a recruit, "Commit to BYU and there's a great chance you'll be on national television 3 times your senior year of high school."



So should BYUtv make an arrangement to show high school games in Utah? Hawaii, California, etc.?

Until it's against the rules, they should.

Will never happen. BYUtv is a tool for the church, not a sports outlet. They aren't looking to generate additional programming like the Longhorn Network that is starting from scratch and is a sports-first enterprise.

Good point. I think as much as we want it to be BYU Sports Tv, it's still just BYUtv.

Well imagine your local HS team is on BYUtv in California, Texas or Florida and afterwards you can catch a session of conference. I think the potential for the church is greater than the potential for BYU recruiting.



Plus can't they split their feed to show multiple games (or something else entirely) in different areas?

Yeah. And after I watch BYU on ESPN I might stick around to watch the scientologist's semi-annual shareholders meeting.

But you will catch all those beer and insurance commercials. And come on, networks routinely lead into another show after their blockbuster and ratings after a highly ranked show/game are always higher than otherwise. I'm not sure if it is the best thing for BYUtv but it would reach an audience that might otherwise never get to hear about the church (which is why I also think BYU should schedule only FCS division teams outside of Utah and Idaho). Now if BYUtv could produce a drama people want to watch after a football game you might actually develop a viewer base.
