Very interesting article. Texas has such a viable option in going independent that they have nothing to lose and everything to gain by demanding more and more from their league partners. Eventually the partners will have made so many concessions, that anything, even a non-BCS league will be better than continuing with Texas.



I agree with the author, Big 12 is not set up for long-term success, and I don't think that's a ship we want to be a part of. If Texas goes, there's nothing but pieces for the other conferences to pick up.



And just for kicks, let's say we did join and got to play Texas every year. Who picks up the TV rights? ESPN? Longhorn network? BYUTv? Fox?

The only benefit would be in getting the lable "BCS School" which might make moving to another BCS conference if it does fall apart more of a possibility.

I hope Texas goes Independent. That only helps us. We could get a yearly deal going as independents. If we beat them a few times it might even become a sort of rivalry.



OK and AM would go to the SEC. OSU and Tech would go to the Pac-12 and the rest of the teams that don't deserve the BCS level would be absorbed by the Mountain West.

We could always leave and go back to independent.

BYUtv needs to get on the ball here. They could start broadcasting high school football games anywhere. Like Hawaii, California, Utah, Idaho, Arizona etc. Recruiting would go through the roof. Also it helps with exposure for the church. You watch your kids play football and then you catch the last conference talk. What do you guys think?

BYU already holds several advantages over utah. HS games would just be a sprinkle on an already large cake.

The biggest reason to not join the Big 12 is I don't think it's going to exist in five years.

Yes, but this could give us an advantage over USC. The PAC channel will only be able to show 1 game at a time if they decide to go that route. That leaves plenty of games for BYUtv.
