High School games on BYUtv

Interesting topic discussed on the radio this morning. Apparently the Big12 and NCAA are looking into if it would be legal for Texas to show high school games on their new network. If it is ruled legal to do this would allow them to feature potential recruits.



I'm hoping Texas wins the argument because that would mean that BYU could do the same thing. It would be pretty nice to have a lot of Davis High games on this season with Hinds indicating that he will hold off until the end of the season to make his commitment. Or the other route you could go is start showing games for the committed recruits schools. If a top recruit wants world wide exposure all they would need to do is commit to BYU and we could make it happen.



In all likelihood I expect the NCAA to rule that showing high school games on your own network is an unfair recruiting advantage and is not allowed. But it would be cool...

Yeah, I can't imagine the NCAA allowing this.

The current NCAA rule just says no member of the coaching staff can arrange to put a recruits games on television. The network can do it as long as the coaches don't have any input.



Seems like a slam dunk for this year at least.

I bet the NCAA makes a pretty quick decision on this. Seems fairly obvious that this can't be allowed.

I'm all against it. I don't care to see high school athletes on a college network. I don't care to because the network is made to help promote the University, not incoming recruits. Why on earth would you want to watch a High School football game over BYU Soccer or Volleyball on a Friday Night? I'll also admit I like that BYUtv has Wind at My Back and movies on Friday Nights when there isn't sports. I'd much rather have that stay the same over seeing High School Players that I could care less about. As it is, say the player you wanted to feature would be a Tight End or Defensive Back. You really wouldn't see them featured too much. Unless it's a QB, RB, receiver, or someone who makes a lot of tackles you wouldn't even know who the school was going after.



As things stand though, Jarom Jordan was asked about this before the men's soccer game on Thursday, and he said the station has no intention of doing sports outside of BYU and the conferences they are affiliated with.
