Zach Lindsay

I've been hearing alot of rumors about Lindsay reconsidering his commitment to BYU. Are there any truth to these rumors? But it can't be good because I've heard that he's really good friends with Troy Hinds and if he goes to the U then that may spell disaster for us

I don't know if "disaster" is the word I would use. But it could be hard losing those two to the u. Your guess is as good as anyone's right now.

On cougar board they said on the ute scout page that he decommited but his high school coach said that he talked with Zach and he said that he is still 100% commited so I think I believe his coach but Id hate to hear within the next couple days that he has officailly decommited

It depends on who you listen to and who speaking really knows. Rumors abound, but supposedly an article was released today by the Scout.com Ute rep that quotes him as saying he's now 75% Utah and 25% BYU. I have to believe that grades suddenly became an issue and if so, I'd be surprised if his scholie wasn't pulled. At this point it seems from credible sources that something happened and as Talo Steves said at TBS, it's hard to believe there isn't some credibility related to the grades for the quick turn-around. Rumor I've seen too is that Hines will not be drawn in Lindsay's direction just because he changes, but I can't imagine it would have hurt to have him at BYU. I would hope that if it is grades that Hines shows that he's the man and doesn't follow someone just because he worked himself into a narrowed selection by not hitting the books. If it isn't grades I'd have to say something really weird happened.



I'm just glad upon hearing that sad news that at least we have the welcome news that Jamall Williams committed. We don't seem to have as many challenges getting OL to BYU as much as speedy backs that could be at BYU 5 years straight.

Rumors involved grades too low, offers being yanked, and commitment switches.



If I were to guess, I'd say Bronco called Zach about his Utah visit asking where his commitment really lay. During the conversation he asks about Zach's grades and doesn't get very good news. He applies a little pressure since two big red flags just reared their ugly head.Bronco subtly implies, or threatens to yank the scholarship offer.



I don't know Zach at all but suppose he's a little hot headed and says something like, if you yank my offer, maybe I'll just go to Utah. Bronco says that's your choice, let me know.



And now we have rumors and nothing concrete.

Just checked out Scout.com. Although Zack is verbally committed to BYU - they have posted that Zack has a new favorite ( :utard: ). Good grief!!

At Scout.com they have Zach Lindsay as not committed now (he was listed at one time as a BYU recruit) and that he has offers from BYU and Utah.



I think he's gone. We don't always get the exact reasons to confirm or not a decommit, but usually were there's smoke there's fire and I would think all of this hubbub within a few months of committing, that he's now gone as far as BYU. The guy didn't return Brandon Gurney's phone calls. That says somethign.

Obviously the kid must have grade issues.



I mean, you can't be very smart to switch your commit from BYU to Utah, so that would imply he also gets bad grades.

According to Gurney grades weren't an issue.

something happened. I don't especially care to know what because it probably would mean draggin the kid through mud on a public forum.

I have some inside info here, and posted some of it in the Recruiting thread. I have a relative who is in Zach's ward in Kaysville. Zach is a really nice kid and grew up a BYU fan, and that is why he commit early. But Zach is also not a great student and it is because he does not apply himself to the books as well as he is capable of. BYU coaches are willing to work with him on grades, etc., but he needs a solid start to his senior year, or he may be looking to Utah, which is option #2. Utah is coming at him really hard because they see a chance to land him, but for now, he is still a BYU commit--regardless of what all of this recruiting boards say. That could change, but it is doubtful it will soon, unless BYU presses him, which could happen.



The fact ZL has not commented himself on this yet still leads me to believe he is BYU commit for now.

The Y has a history of helping players meet their educational goals and being very supportive during the process. The Y is pulling for Maui prospect NG Pasoni Tasini to improve his GPA from 2.7 to 3.0. The kid wants an offer bad enough that he is taking summer school classes instead of attending football camps (see BYU.scout article by Talo Steves 7/6/11). I imagine Zach can do the same if he really wants to attend the Y. Recent examples of this - though not entirely like the Lindsay case include Drew Phillips, Joe Sampson, Manase Tonga, et. Al. Thus, they will do their best to encourage him as he shows a willingness to do his part. It is a great gauge if the player's commitment to improve.

I love that kids like Lindsay and the player from Maui (Tasini) are forced to show BYU that they are serious about grades. Even while "superior academically" schools in the pac-20 are more than happy to make even more of a push for a student that BYU doesn't feel fits in with their academic standards. This just another detail in the long list of things that set BYU apart from every other school out there. And being original (doing the right thing) has paid off lately.



Having said that, hit the books Zach and Tasini!!! Apply yourself and you'll have no problem getting into BYU and staying there. Good things ahead men.

I for one hope it is a grade thing and that if he needs to, he learns how to work now. Work is work, whether it's school, film study, or position mastery repetitions. Not to say he couldn't learn how to work hard once he gets to school (see Jake heaps first 6 games of 2010...) but why wait?

Given the accounts that I have read, this sounds right on. It would also explain why Bronco has not yanked his schollie because it is understandable to have a back up if senior year grades don't go well. But it always starts this way. open the door a crack and ...



we will see. hope to see him in cougarblue. would hate to lose him to the the pukes.

Zach didn't take an official visit to Utah, so I doubt there was much pressure from Bronco in that regard. It was a camp. Probably went with a bunch of his high school teammates.

He was quoted as saying he is leaning 75% Utah 25% BYU. His Facebook also lists Utah Utes Football as one of his activities. Not looking good. Wonder what he'll think after we kick the Utes a$$ this year.

He'll think he is glad Utah has lower admission standards than Bronco....

It is the same. If he changes, it is due to academics, and him not applying himself, so BYU basically putting pressure on him he does not want. I hear he is a bit lazy. Obviously, that can change, but the people who told me are not haters. They know him and love the kid. For what it's worth.
