2011-2012 Schedule

NC schedule has been annouced. It seems a little light to me. A few good games but too many cupcakes. Hopefully the next year will be better.

I'm glad to see Baylor coming to the MC. It will be the first Big 12 team at home in awhile.



I'm not as enamored with the ESA games as TH. It's not the distance as it's not much different, but it's the atmosphere. Just not the same as a regular home game.

The thing with non-conference basketball schedules is that just like football, most of the schedules are made 2 to 3 years in advance and then announced as they are finalized. I never expected any MWC teams to be on the basketball schedule this year, but I do think Air Force, New Mexico, and San Diego State might end up on the schedule in future seasons.



I can understand why people are disappointed with the non-conference schedule, but I prefer to look at the highlights. Utah State will open the season for the second straight year. Utah State is still the heavily favored team out of the WAC, and with it being in Logan you know they'll give BYU a huge fight. BYU-Hawaii returns to the Marriott Center for the second straight year. Yes, most people would laugh at a D2 team being on the schedule, but BYU-Hawaii is fresh off a national championship appearance, and I'd love a yearly match-up between the sister schools. Nevada, Bradley, and Wisconsin might not sound huge, but remember that match between BYU and Nevada in the 2009 Las Vegas Classic? I do believe both teams scored over 100. Bradley is a top 5 team in the Missouri Valley Conference, and Wisconsin is a huge Big 10 name. Oregon, Utah, and Baylor are certainly not slouches or huge blackeyes on the schedule or RPI either.



Frankly, looking at the non-conference schedule, I expect at least 10 of the games to end up being broadcast nationally on BYUtv. I expect ESPN to pick up the Utah and Baylor games and possibly the Utah State and Virginia Tech games, but the rest of the home games and the two games in Chicago (Chicago Invitational) should all be picked up by BYUtv.

I agree with most of what you said, except you must have missed the basketball season last year, because Utah definitely is a slouch, blackeye on our schedule and ding to our RPI.

This year??? You meant this decade, right?

While the overall home schedule isn't terribly impressive, Baylor will be a top 10 team this year and they return 2 top notch future NBA players.



Baylor will be better than the Wake Forest team that came to Provo.

Keep this in mind- state rivalry games are always intense no matter how poorly a team may be. I stand by what I said. Sure, Utah may not do well this year, but do you really think Utah's RPI is going to be knocked down when they participate in a more difficult conference with the Pac-12? Look at the facts- the reason the MWC was one of the top 3 RPI's last year was because of BYU, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah, and New Mexico. Well, the MWC is losing BYU and Utah. Now I know Utah had a poor season last year, but lets not forget they did beat New Mexico (twice) and UNLV last year. Plus Utah has most of their lineup coming back. the Utes will be better off than what you think.



And declocoug, lets be a little realistic here. Utah already won 10 games during the 2010-11 season, so exactly how would they not win 10 games this decade when they have already done so?

The Ute games may have been intense, but they haven't been competitive with BYU since Jimmer's sophomore year.

Now that the regular season is over, lets take a look. People have said that the schedule was a little soft. We can do anything about the league games. Utah St had an unusually weak year (124). Utah was better then we thought (275). Longwood (330)/Prarie View (294) was given to us from the Cancer coaches. N Arizonia (338) is usually better than that. The rest I think were okay. VA Tech (115) could have been better.



No team had an unusually good year. We might have been better off playing a home and away with USU and Weber St than the above teams.

And we didn't play as many road/neutral games as we did previously to compensate in the RPI for playing poor teams.
