I'm jealous of Utah

There, I said it. It will be great to see all of our games now, so I guess I like it more than being in the MWC, but being in the WCC/INDY sucks balls compared to playing USC, UCLA, ASU, UofA etc every year.



But we get to control who we play? Don't care. I'd rather establish rivalries in the PAC-12. Not to mention the basketball team got hosed.

How about not having to share your football revenue with a low class rival school that doesn't even have a mens track team? Going independant kind of reminds me of the invictus poem. It has a certain appeal to those of us who aspire to be rugged indivitualists and to those of us who can't stand being anyones B!#$@. I predict Washington State beats Utah. Actually my last year prediction was that Utah ends up in the Las Vegas Bowl getting beat by TCU. That would just be great.

I see the independent thing as a temporary thing anyway.

Within a few years, BYU WILL be in a bcs conference IMO and the WILL be establishing intense rivalries.

BTW, a hawt rivalry with Notre Dame > rivalry w/ Utah. I'd honestly trade Utah game every year for annual games w/ Notre Dame.

I agree. UofU will never be a Notre Dame - never. You cannot replace - or even compete with the tradition of Notre Dame.



Notre Dame - has been playing football for 122 years. Of all the football programs in the USA - they have the 2nd highest winning percentage (.734). That is impressive. The have won 11 National Championships! That's impressive. BYU will gain huge public stature from beating Notre Dame 50% of the time. The National media attention will be off the charts.

I think BYU did what they had to do in the short-to-medium term to elevate their profile and to remain competitive. Had BYU stayed in the MWC while Utah got the PAC-12, it would have been a disaster. Now, become more relevant nationally, and ESPN has a reason to promote us, which will help in many ways. ESPN is the 800-lb gorilla of US sports, but especially college football.



To me, not sure yet is Indy is better or worse than PAC-12 or Big 12. I think it will play out. IF the NCAA goes to a playoff for football, and drops the BCS, I think Indy is better. But only as long as we get good opponents coming to LES. If we are stuck with home games vs. the WAC, MWC and C-USA, and roadies at tougher places, I will say Indy will be very difficult. The one thing the PAC-12 does offer over Indy is certainty with great home games each year. But other than that and good $$$, not sure it helps BYU. BYU is just different.

It doesn't sound like you live in Utah. I can't imagine someone living in Utah where you live and work daily with that vermin fanbase and say such a thing. Would I rather not have a rivalry that was so much in my face? Sure, because when you lose it, a year becomes a very, very long time. Thankfully we weren't favored this last season and then we swept them in BB, but I've lived here when we lost all three contests. It would be easier to coexist without the rivalry, but it would be hard to stand side-by-side and not establish who was better on the field of play.



As I've said before around here, I grew up with the fabled Ohio St/Michigan rivalry and the BYU/Utah rivalry is far more intense without a doubt totally because we cohabitate the same geographic space. I would like an annual rivalry with ND, but it would never near what the Puke rivalry is.

I'll admit it's hard not to be jealous of the Pukes in regard to being invited to a BCS conference. I believe they earned that right without a doubt. My only problem is that I believe that BYU earned that right much more strongly, but faced some degree of discrimination, which makes it harder to swallow. I can't just suddenly not dislike the Pukes just because they are not in our conference. I was one of those guys that when Utah was playing a non-conference game that I did want them to win, but it felt good when they didn't. Now without that affiliation, that unless it benefits us directly in our SOS or something, I would not be disappointed to see the Pukes lose every single game every single year. I don't think this whole situation will sit okay until BYU one day has the option to likewise be in such a conference or unless we get to a point where likewise we can have a schedule like ND where teams will come to LES to play because it is viewed as an honor to be on our schedule. I hear ya brother.

The only reason I would have wanted the PAC is because I live in Tucson. It would have been awesome to watch the cougs here regularly.



BTW, the best offer I've gotten so far on my UA-UU football tics is 50 cents from my brother so he can burn them.

I have no problem admitting that I wish BYU had the home FB schedule Utah will now be getting. I love seeing PAC schools roll into LES, and now Utah gets that 4-5 times per year. I am envious, and hope BYU is able to get some similar solid games on the schedule, especially for late October and November.



Scheduling is the only real reason I care though. Utah may be getting big $$$, but that is not a huge deal for BYU. They get what they need as far as facilities go, have it paid for in advance, so they are able to do more with less in that respect. BYU does not leverage facilities costs, as many schools do. Plus, BYU Gets more in donations that we are aware of.



Just need a better home FB Schedule moving forward.

Wouldn't worry much beyond 2 years and we will have similar scheduling comparable to ND - we win, put butts in the seats, and we have ESPN putting us in must see games. They want to reap the benefits of a good draw and fan base as much as we do. We have a great presence across the country in major metropolitan areas - check the distribution of recent temples across the US. Nor saying all are Y fans but a good portion support the team and its mission.
