If Jimmer is drafted by a team you hate, what are you going to do?



In the poll I put about where I think the lines of Jimmer jersey (or other merchandise) sells would fall, do you agree, disagree?

I don't hate the Kings but I worry that a Tyreke Evans, Fredette backcourt won't work AND I worry that the Maloofs have made very poor financial decisions the last few years.

I was never a 49er fans whatsoever until Young went there. I've even had to like the Steelers a bit with the multiple BYU players and that was really difficult having grown up a Browns fan and feeling about the Steelers about the same most of you feel about the Pukes.



I'm glad for the sake of hearing from the media that Jimmer didn't go to the Jazz as the media furry would have continued. Now though, the Jazz need to put a game together because none of their picks were endearing to area fans. The only reason I've been somewhat of a Jazz fan (actually a Cavs fan) has been my proximity to the team. It wouldn't be hard to be a Kings fan.

I haven't really cared at all about the Kings since the Vlade Divac years, when I didn't care much for them. Now I'm a Kings fan, the Jazz lost their last chance to win me back as a fan after the fiasco that was last season.

It's a perfect time for the Maloof brothers to move the Kings to Vegas. Of course that's just my selfish self speaking.

I'm actually kinda glad that the Jazz didn't take Jimmer. I've hated them for a long time but after being in Provo for the last few years and feeling like I've lost the connection with my hometown team, the Rockets, I was in the market for a new team and was dreading the day that the Jazz would ultimately be that team.



I really don't care for pro sports anyway so after losing touch with the H-town clubs, I turn my rooting interests towards teams with former BYU guys on the roster. Looks like the Kings are my new team.

I live in So. Calif. I'm NOT a Laker fan - and I'm certainly not a King fan. I will follow Jimmer & wish success for him. But, I hope he gets out of Sacramento & off to a good team sooner rather than later.

That would be perfect. Sacramento is dead! I have heard the NBA would not support an NBA team in Vegas because of all the gambling, vice etc. Who knows if that's true or grapevine gossip. I've wondered for a long time why Vegas did not have an NBA team. The locals would LOVE it!!

The trade down to get Jimmer at 10 instead of 7 is already being labeled the worst trade of 2011--and it has nothing to do with Jimmer. When I saw the details of the trade last night, it was a bit of a head-scratcher as I didn't see what the Kings gained from it.

Interesting take - most of the press was very positive about the move by the Kings. I think this columnist is just a Jimmer-Hater, showing him at # 22, and trying to justify his low opinion of Jimmer by ragging on the Kings for their move.

When you look at what they gave up vs. what they got, and then compare where the Kings would have been had they just took Jimmer at #7, you really struggle to come up with a good answer. Like I said--it has nothing to do with Jimmer. In either instance they take Jimmer. They traded a younger cheaper better player for an older more-expensive worse player--that's the trade you make if you want to move UP in the draft, not the trade you make to move DOWN in the draft.

Again, that's ignoring the idiotic trade down.



Yes, they get the kudos for getting Jimmer, but if they would have just drafted him at 7 and not made the trade, they would have had more money and a younger, more talented team than they do with the trade.



Picking Jimmer is not the issue. The issue is WTH did the Kings gain in the trade? I still can't point to anything.

I agree, the trade doesn't make sense. Maybe the guy was a cancer in the locker room?

Let me try to explain this deal as I understand it...



Sacramento's coaches definitely liked Jimmer, but they preferred to take Kemba at #7. The GM and owners liked Jimmer much more than Kemba, so they over-ruled the coaches, and accomplished it in a devastating "shock and awe" manner:



1. They traded away the #7 pick (Brandon Knight went #8 and Kemba Walker went #9).

2. They picked their man, Jimmer, at #10. And that means they get the same guy for less money (and lower the "bust" expectations by 3 spots, though that shouldn't be a problem).

3. They traded away last year's starting point guard, forcing the coaches to start Jimmer from day one! That means even higher fan excitement, thus even more jerseys and season tickets sold, since we now know Jimmer won't be riding the bench. (Sidenote: The Kings sold more season tickets TODAY than they did all of last year)

4. The Kings were weak at Small Forward and Point Guard and had trouble with perimeter shooting and inside defense. Salmon can play the 3, and he's a good defender. So they now have Jimmer/Thomas/Thornton/Tyreke at 1, Tyreke Evans/Jimmer/Thornton/Salmon at 2, and Salmon/Honeycutt at 3 (not to mention DeMarcus Cousins, a #5 pick, playing the 5). That's an upgrade at both the 1 and the 3 for Sacramento, with the 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year starting at the 2! It's a great deal in my mind all around. What's not to like?



So if the Kings had taken Jimmer at #7, the PG role would be more muddled, the SG role would be more muddled, the SF position would be weaker, excitement wouldn't have been as high, and national/local disappointment with Jimmer going before both Knight and Walker would have been intense. It was a smart, smart move. IMO
