RB Jamal Williams compares BYU to Boise State

I love the comparison this kid makes between us and Boise State.



"It didn't really reach the same expectations as BYU, one feels like a little camp and the other feels like a big-time program. The people were really kind at BYU. They would say hi to you even though they don't know you really. At Boise, you really have to really go up to people and talk to them to get to know them.The football program might have surpassed BYU this past year a little, but that's the only thing they've really got on them a little bit."



Not too shabby, i think this kid will commit pretty soon, especially the way scholarship offers are going pretty fast.

Per Talo Steve's interview with JW at TBS:

"Boise State was a little more the uniforms and gloves and accessories they have..."



What was that comment about? I can't imagine they have any more uniforms, gloves or accessories than BYU. Would they? That would surprise me. I think that they didn't fluant them as much to the recruits at BYU then they did at Boise as besides their stellar record, they don't have a lot more to outshine bigger programs.



It was a great article and he now he goes to SDSU. He's going to ask them about their "honor code". Yea right. Good luck on that one.

Compare campuses, compare stadiums, compare new TV deals. BSU has their 2 BCS games, though. Otherwise, there is no comparison. And after their QB graduates this year, who knows what happens with them. Not like they have a strong QB tradition there.

Boise has a very good college QB pedigree. Zabranski was a very good college QB. Dinwiddie before him set the passer rating record, I think for a season (I think it's also been passed). Boise has produced very good college QBs - just not in the pros (kind of like BYU since Steve Young).

It doesn't surprise me a bit. I bet at Boise St. and places like Oregon, they go on and on about how cool their uniforms are, how high tech their gloves are, etc. Not that they are any more advanced then anywhere else, but its something they really push and talk about because it appeals to a certain percentage of the kids.

Don't forget Detmer and his 14 year career. Or Beck and his NFL experience. Or even Max. At least those guys all made rosters and got a check, even if not superstars.

My guess is that he thinks BSU has cooler stuff than BYU. Not necessarily that you get to keep it. BSU's stuff is more modern/edgy and might appeal to kids who don't really get the BYU tradition thing.

My guess is that he thinks BSU has cooler stuff than BYU. Not necessarily that you get to keep it. BSU's stuff is more modern/edgy and might appeal to kids who don't really get the BYU tradition thing.

If you're Boise State, you need something to draw in recruits, because for all practical purposes they're a glorified junior college with a blue field.

2. The football tradition at BYU and actual success of their players in the NFL >>>>>> Boises very short history and even shorter history of NFL success



3. If you think Provo is cold in the winter....



4. Bronco Mendenhall.....



5. The academics are night and day... in fact Boise has been put on blast for their football academics by the NCAA





so.... they have fancy gloves and jerseys..... sounds like a Napolean syndrome to me and it sounds like Jamal Williams recognized just that. No matter what BSUs football team does, they're a 2nd tier school and will always be. To me, they're the western version of Kansas State. A town that no one wants to go to, getting 2nd rate juco players mixed in with a few nice castoffs that other schools missed on. We'll never know how BSU would have done the last 5 years if they had played something even resembling a reasonably difficult regular season schedule.

This is only true to a certain extent. If you're only into looking at a ton of pretty girls then Provo is a very tough place. But if you looking into doing a little more than just look at a ton of pretty girls, then you may want to go somewhere else.

A lot if you plan on intercepting the ball and keeping your hands I'm front of you.

You can do more than look? :bug: Like, poke them on Facebook or something? They kept me in the basement of the Talmage building most of the time, so I considered myself lucky anytime I even had the opportunity to look. ;)

Boise's OOC last five years:

2010: Virginia Tech, @ Wyoming, Oregon St, Toledo.

2009: Oregon, Miami (OH), @ Bowling Green, UC Davis, @ Tulsa

2008: Idaho St, Bowling Green, @ Oregon, @ Southern Miss

2007: Weber St, @ Washington, Wyoming, Southern Miss

2006: Sacramento St, Oregon St, @ Wyoming, @ Utah

The WAC is horrible though. BS will get tested far more often in the MWC than they ever did in he WAC. TCU leaving after next year hurts them though. But AFA, and SDSU with Rocky will make things tougher because they still get to play Nevada and Fresno. The rest are dregs usually.

they played Wyoming 3x in the last 5 years? no wonder they have such a good record v MWC teams...

Utah just offered this kid. Looking more and more true that Utah is simply coat tailing BYU's efforts. How original of them. And here I thought they were so awesome at talent evals??

It's not a BCS thing, I have little to no respect for anyone that plays nobody in the non-con or con season... including Ohio State



BYUs schedule and Boise States schedule the last 5 years = night and day



BSU played in the WAC and often was lucky to play 1 top 25 team in an entire season.



What would BYU's record have been the last 5 years if we had played in the WAC and those cited non-con schedules?



It's much easier to get up for a big team when you know that the next three weeks you'll get cupcakes.
