Looks like another Utah recruit just committed to the frUtes.



He's a 2 star, how bad do you think this hurts us?

He was a ute fan his whole life. If that's the case, he's living his dream and best of luck. One more scholarship to give to someone who really wants to be a part of what BYU is.

Gurney is going to gush about how big a loss this is for us...I'm just waiting on that.



Drew has already tweeted a million messages about the "lost" commits, he also just found out media day is in July...not to be too harsh on the guy, but with summer so loooong I've become crabby till fall.

This is barely a blip. This kid was Utah's t lose. He is not LDS, he is a Ute fan and they offered. Frankly, this is the type of in state kid I expect Utah to land.



I suspect that after more camps, that spot will be filled with no worries.

Naturally Ute fans are gushing over themselves over bronco's quote that "we'd never lose another in-state recruiting battle again" and from a certain point of view we've gone 0-2 this summer. even if we "never wanted this guy anyways"



We can say that these weren't ever our recruits to begin with, but at what point do we actually count these as losses?

I'd like to see that full Mendenhall quote, because I'm sure he knows that there will be times that someone just wants to play for the "u" for whatever reason. Like lawboy said, this guy isn't LDS, and was a lifetime u fan. Someone that can easily be replaced by BYU.

Dimick does sound like a good player who would help us. But it was going to be a long shot for us.

That was it. And it is true. The comment was very narrow, but has been blown up to be made more than it was. Simply, if BYU loses a kids, it is because they did not value the BYU experience as highly as others. I think it is a fair statement. Utah can claim otherwise, but that commuter campus simply does not compare.

All we need to do to emphasize this point is to look at recent commits that are nor LDS and felt this was the right place: Q, Phillips, Houk, Woldord, Fua, Sampson, Everett... The list goes on and on and will continue to grow with our exposure on ESPN and KByu TV.

The question about what Bronco really said has been bugging me so I did a little net surfing and found that apparently two quotes are being mixed. The first as accurately as I could find it is from LOI day (or shortly thereafter) 2/7/2007, when Bronco targeted 9 in-state players and got all nine. His quote as quoted by Brandon Gurney in Joseph Simmons universe.edu article http://newsnet.byu.edu/story.cfm/62943" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, says, "We didn't lose to anybody, and I don't think we'll lose to anybody from here on out,". I couldn't find anything else that specifically mentioned Utah or any other team by name.



The other that seems to be confused with that one was said on July 30, 2010 shortly after the independance annoucement (possibly the same day but Idk for sure). It was in an article by Darnell Dickson in the Daily Universe and Bronco was quoted as saying, "I don't think we'll lose a single player that wants BYU to any other school in the country. There are those players we have who were recruited nationally, but a kid who wants the BYU experience can only get it at BYU. There's no other place as unique, as specific or as special as BYU. We won't lose a single player who wants that experience. I know my FIL is still upset because he feels the Bronco arrogantly stated he would never lose another recruit to Utah but I cannot find anything specific about them.



Take this for what it's worth. I'd love if someone has something more to shed additional light on the alleged comment.

Bingo! Our recruiting sphere is so much larger that the Wasatch Front now. We're beating the bushes & landing athletes Nationwide! I'm really impressed with our reach & growth of influence. It's only going to get better in the next few years. We just need to win on National TV. That's the 800 lb. gorilla.
