He predicts the following scores so far:



BYU 33 MS 24

BYU 23 TX 27

BYU 28 UT 17



Based upon what I have read from other team's objective posters, we should actually be 3-0 going into game 4 if we can carry the momentum from the UTEP game, Spring practice and gell during fall camp.

I don't see us giving up 27 to tx, nor does Utah hold us to 28, especially early in the year.

We're scoring 100 points between the Utah and Utah State games.

Name the last time we hung a big number on Utah. I know that we all HOPE we will, but it has not happened forever. I think we beat Utah, but more like 27-10 range.



I love the fact that our first 3 games are teams that are either run teams, or teams with QB issues. Plays into the strength of our D.

It has been a while. It's just a feeling I have based on what I think is going to be a very inept Utah offense - especially early in the year. They're breaking in a new offense. One of the QBs who ran the offense in spring has been moved to defense. The QB who is likely the starter is coming off of serious shoulder surgery and has barely started throwing and not at full speed. He'll have essentially a few weeks to get the timing of the offense down.



Oh and it's an offense that ranked 103rd last year, 81st in 2009, and 111th in 2008. And don't forget this offense scored 0 points and gained only 239 total yards on its last trip to Provo. It didn't even run 40 offensive plays that day. They had two drives of more than six plays.



BYU is going to have a bunch more offensive chances than Utah. Throw in a poor QB who is then going to try to press to get his team back in the game. Throw in a longer than a decade span of not handing it to these guys. Throw in the team and coaches knowing this is a big game because now it is a "BCS" team and I think we're really going to handle Utah.

Doesn't mean it will happen, but I'd put money on a blowout this year.

we've used this as a verbal justification about our beating Texas, and now Utah. And although it's not quite the same since Doman has been on staff but we're technically breaking in a new offense as well with a first time coordinator.



I know we're all excited about him and the great things Doman will do, but it should go both ways. I liked all your other points though and would love to post 50 on the Frutes. I'm getting tired of seeing more U stickers on cars in SLC than BYU ones.

Texas' situation is more like ours than Utah's. Their offensive coordinator is Major Applewhite. He's the team's former QB. He's been on the staff since 2008 and was the running backs coach before becoming co-OC. So while they're breaking in a new coordinator, there is some continuity for the staff. Utah is installing a new offense from the outside.

I don't see Ole Miss putting up 24 on this D. They don't have a QB which bodes well for our new starters in the secondary. We will shut down the running game and force turnovers.

As to Utah, the Chow offense Utah is running will resemble his USC offense, not UCLA offense, especially last year where Slick Rick made him implement the pistol offense. I expect it to be more pro style, less spread. People will actually notice Utah has a TE again, and they do have a decent one. But they are raw at RB, and that hurts them most in pass protection, not running it. Youth can hit a gap with no worries, but they generally mess up pass protections.



As to Texas, the major difference between them and us is we have a stable QB, and they are not remotely close to it. If Heaps stays healthy, that gives us a huge edge. Gilbert has been a major bust, considering he was a Nike Elite QB top 10 recruit, and the other kids they have do not seem to have it either. That bodes well for us because Texas has struggled running the ball for years, which is odd considering how many 4 and 5* o-line recruits they get.



Ole Miss is a mess. Anyone saying otherwise is in denial. THey have major QB issues, major defense and secondary issues. Their strength is the O-line and run blocking, with some solid backs. They will try to smash us, so our front 7 will get tested quickly. IF we can force them into passing situations, we will throttle them.

Either way, it's a new offense for Utah. One for which they haven't and didn't recruit. They have been recruiting for the spread for nearly a decade. I predict their offense is going to have major growing pains.



That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the PAC-12 South. Since UCS is still ineligible, UCLA is atrocious, Colorado is awful and Arizona is average at best. All they've got to do is beat a decent Arizona team and they're playing for the championship.

Is anyone seeing the implications of this - we beat these 3 teams and we likely will run the table - only other potential roadblocks are UCF, OSU, and TCU.

TCU has been a major roadblock for years. No way will I discount them.

I think we handle UCF with ease as they lose so many starters from last year, and OSU, unless we turn it over too much.

I think our toughest games both take place in Texas this year.

UCF isn't used to traveling as far as Provo. I think the travel and the altitude will wear on them.

Utah will also be coming off their game against USC, which could leave them a little battered.



These have all been good points to consider as we languish in summer. What I'd LIKE to have happen those first three games are close victories over Ole Miss and UT, to give the team confidence but not arrogance, and then a crushing victory over Utah, to send their season into freefall. Not that I have anything against them, of course.

Ole Miss

Utah,

UCF

Oregon State

Utah State,

San Jose State,

Idaho State,

Louisiana Tech,

Idaho,

New Mexico State



Toss-up contests:



UT (Tough to win in their stadium although UCLA waxed them 59-0)

TCU (because they have had our number for so many years)

Hawaii (playing on the island, time zone factor and against a foe that truly considers this game their SuperBowl).
