Adam Hine

I just read an interesting article about the returning Adam Hine

and had some questions which I am hoping you can help me with. I wasn't following recruiting as closely then as I do now and so I don't know much about him. Obviously he was a 4 star recruit, for what that's worth, and his highlights look amazing; but how excited should I be about him returning? Will he be back in time for fall camp/2011 season? If so, will he redshirt? Will he be the primary back eventually or will he be a speedup back with Quezada? So many questions...

I've waited to see this kid play for a long time. Should be fun to finally see what he can do at the D1 level. I wonder if we are going to see him blueshirt this year though.

He gets home from his mission in July, so it really depends on what type of shape he comes back in. That only gives him 4-7 weeks until Fall camp to really get football ready. Since he went right from HS to mission(like months after), I suspect he will redshirt and have a year to learn the offense and get in better football shape.



I think he was rated as a 4* by scout and 3* by rivals. Needs to bulk up some, but could be a great one.

Bronco has already said that he will redshirt this coming season.

Assuming he plays offense, if this kid plays like he did in high school we will be in for a treat. I know 2012 in a long way off and we have the 2011 season to go through but looking forward to 2012 makes this 2011 season seem so much closer than 50 days (that's a guess). But just a thought. Take Hine's athleticism put him in the slot with Quezada as the lone back and Drew Phillips in the other slot on a four wide set. OOOOHHHHH!!!! I am salivating just thinking of a formation like that will Apo and Hoffman on the outside. That would probably be the fastest line-up/formation that BYU will have ever put on the field. Just think fella's we are less than two months away from the start of fall practice!!!!!!!!!!!

Adam doesn't get home until August. To late for this year.

I have also been holding my breath for 3 years - excited & waiting to see Adam suit up in a Cougar uniform. With his exceptional speed - has there ever been talk about playing Adam on the Defensive side? I'm thinking he could be a "lockdown" corner with his incredible athleticism & speed? Any insight?

According to my source, he doesn't get back until 11th August from Spanish speaking Panama Panama City Mission. He's been serving as a ZL. Leadership, I like it.

Be excited. He didn't get much hype because of his early commitment if i recall correctly but he was one of our bigger gets.

Absolutely! Stanford wanted Adam very badly. He's a "Rock Star" on the field. Very talented. His quickness & athleticism is eye popping.

Hine will be at school for Fall camp. From the article it sounds like he got home just this past Thursday and will be on campus by this weekend.

This is very exciting. I have anxiously been waiting to see Adam suit up & make an impact. Just gut instinct tells me Adam is going to be a very special player. But ohhhh - is he going to be sore getting back into shape. A 27 month pay-off will take about 8 weeks - maybe more - to shake off.

Funny story. MY wife and girls went down to St. George over the weekend to see The Little Mermaid at Tuacahn. They stayed all weekend and went to sacrament meeting on Sunday before coming come. Apparently, the meeting that they attended was a mission homecoming. She tells me about it, says it was some kid who served in Panama, was African American, and had a weird last name. Took me a while to put it all together, but she was at Elder Hine's mission homecoming this past Sunday, and had no idea who he is and that he was a BYU football player. She said it was not mentioned 1 time during the whole meeting.



Anyway, I learned that his last name is pronounced "He-Nay". I also figure that the kid is probably not football ready since he will have been home 9 days before Fall Camp.

Really shows that we got a great, great recruit - soley from a character standpoint, if not athletically as well. Sounds like an awesome guy with a great story. These are the kind of recruits you really want to get behind and see succeed in a BYU uniform.

Seriously, I have been looking forward to seeing Adam in a cougar uniform.

When we mention athletic it is not just speed or the plethora of positions this kid played - he high jumped 7-2 and won the state long-jump title. We are talking freakish athlete that can play anywhere Bronco feels he can utilize his skills. He will contribute in ways that may not be readily apparent on the scout team - but the starters will be better off for experiencing it - like what Drew Phillips did last year.

This kid might be the best all around athlete on the team (he even placed second in the state in the javelin). As a junior, he was a dominating running back, but the QB was graduating and the team didn't have another QB ready to lead the team, so he moved over to QB, pretty successfully as I recall. I have been very excited to see him in BYU blue for a long time, but don't expect it to start this year. He will be red shirting because of his late return from his mission. When he does play, he will be very good (and very willing) at any position he is needed to play. This kid will be an impact player. Be very excited!
