Joe Sampson, the JC transfer from San Mateo College, confirmed to Truebluecougars.com that he will be arriving in Provo on June 17th.

He was able to complete his Poly Sci class as part of finishing his associates degree. He will register/take summer classes to stay ahead academically.

Joe has been working with the same trainer (on both speed and weight training) that his cousin Brian Logan used prior to coming to BYU.

Sampson played in a 3-4 defense at San Mateo College said believes that he will be able to transition comfortably and learn BYU’s defensive scheme.

This is welcome news and our defense just improved its depth with this addition.

I don't know how many times already we've been updated on his arrival and so far it has consistently moved back. Last week he texted Brandon Gurney that he was due in any day and now it's the 17th. If it doesn't happen this time, I would have trouble believing it with ever happen. We've been down this road before. Prove my suspicions wrong Joe.

I will believe it when I see it. Given how he has struggled academically I hope even if he does get here that he can maintain his eligibility.

Summer school will help because he can take 4 or 5 credits and get ahead. Only need 12 during the season to stay FT eligible, so the load is not super heavy that way.

I expect to see him playing vs. Ole Miss.

12 credits? And it's not like he's taking Chem 105, Physics 105 and Calculus at the same time (that was my first semester at BYU, terrible error).

He should be good if he gets here.

12 per semester, not for the year. So not a super heavy load to be classified as a FT student. This also explains why athletes take longer to graduate, unless do summers.

Yeah, I got that. If you're not taking Science classes at BYU, 12 a semester is VERY doable. Just have to be smart about what you take and who you take it from.

He will be a junior so the classes will be harder.

Not necessarily. As an engineering major, my Freshman/Sophomore classes were MUCH MUCH harder than my Junior/Senior Classes. I wouldn't have been able to do the Junior/Senior coursework without the earlier introductory stuff, but from a workload standpoint, I coasted through my last two years compared to my first two.
