Junior Day Info. on Troy Hinds?

It's mid week now, the Junior Day weekend over, and there's been time to analyze what happened.



I've been anxiously waiting for any information about Troy Hinds & what happened with him during his Junior Day experience. Any indicatiors, information, or scoop?

I have heard nothing. Not even sure he was there. I do expect him to be a late commit though, even if signs with BYU. Some kids want the camp experience at vairous locations, and BYU basically tells a kid to stop that once htey commit.

BYU doesn't do all that well securing "late commits." Rare is the recruit who does commit early, shops around a while and then comes to BYU in the end. It seems they either commit early or don't come at all.

Who was that last quality recruit that we didn't get to commit until January? It's been a few years I know, but I don't even know if there has been a quality surprise in that last month for some time.



It would be fun to be privy to all those that were here on junior day, but I heard no word of Troy being in the group, so I don't know.

If he wants to play DE in college our 3-4 scheme will be a hard sell. Hopefully they can convince him to move to OLB

According to Brandon Gurney:



1. Hinds not at BYU's camp this week...sources not sure if he'll be there next week.



2. According to Hinds' father, he's still planning to commit after taking all of his official trips

The slow & deliberate approach by Troy Hinds makes me nervous. Obviously, he's had a lot of exposure to these schools - and plenty of time to kick it around with his Dad.

I don't think this bodes well for the Cougs. IMHO

At this point I'd be surprised if he came to BYU. I can't remember the last time I felt like it would be a surprise and it actually happened. We do well recruiting and all, but in football, we just never seem to be surprised positively very often.



My biggest surprise lately was that Sampson actually made it to Provo, so I guess surprises happen, but I would consider a Hinds surprise to be at least a 9 on a scale of 10. It just kills you when they not only don't go to BYU, but when they end up at the Pukes.

Hinds has been upfront about his desire to weigh his options. This is a truly unique opportunity for a kid to really look at schools and to get a feel for each of them with visits. I respect that. And while BYU usually does better with early commits, it is time we landed the high profile late commits as well. I suspect that DuPaix will really help us with that and with approaching it differently than we have in the past.

BYU made the final 6. I still have a guy feeling saying he picks Nebraska or BYU.

So what are his intangibles that he is looking for in order to pick a school? Exposure, immediate playing time, atmosphere, etc.?

He also provided an explanation for not showing up to camp this week:



Jay Drew: "Hinds said he may hit a day or 2 of BYU's camp next week, but hasn't decided yet. Said he's focusing more on his high school team right now."
