Josh Sharp = BYU Cougar

Trib is reporting that it is now official--Sharp will be transferring from the Ewe to BYU after his mission.

Looks like he will take James Anderson's scholarship. In unrelated news, Coach Krystoncrack of the Ewe can't stop crying long enough to recruit.

Other than Utah joining the Pac and getting their tv deal handed to them.



Has anything good happened for them this past year? Like recruiting in basketball/football, coaches, etc...? I know they got Norm Chow, but I don't know if that's a good thing or not. He's past his prime.

Not much good has happened to the Utes thus far in 2011.

So anyone know enough about Josh to fill us in. I'm needing someone help me get excited about anyone coming over from that sucky :utard: program! I don't see any of their starters having anything that would have an impact on our program...so why is this a good thing?? He seems a bit like a tweener to me, too short to be a big, to slow to be doing anything out front!?!

It seems to me that BYU is in more need for a guard than a forward type player. Next season they will have Abouo, Hartsock, Rogers, Zylstra, Collinsworth, and now Sharp as forwards but only Carlino (who won't even be able to play the first month of the season), Martineau, Winder, and Harrison to play both guard spots.

Good points. How uncommon is it for a Utah high school basketball team to put four of it's players from the same team onto Div 1 teams? It's been incredible what Lone Peak and Provo have given BYU in the way of BB players. I just hope this is a good move.

What a douche, and he implies that BYU actively recruited Sharp while he was on his mission. Could it possibly be that a kid on his mission realizes what a foul den of sin the U is and decides he doesn't want to come back to that kind of vile atmosphere?

Kind of lame that Utah denied his request for a release 3 times (initial request and then the appeals). Must have been a homer Simpson moment when they realized they screwed up the paperwork and he could go anywhere without any penalty in spite if their denials.

What's not clear yet of course is if he will walk-on or pick up the open scholie. I'm sure that news will be announced soon. He's still noted to return 14th June. He spent time on his mission as a ZL, so leader-type caliber.



I have to wonder just a bit if he does pick up a scholie if this is also looking at cementing that Lone Peak pipeline just a bit more. Nothing we'd ever know, but hard to totally dismiss that thought with the noted prized underclassmen BYU is recruiting there.



Coach Krystkowiak not starting out on a very good foot with relations toward his very near neighbors. He of course brings no long established relationship with BYU and will never need to build one. It just doesn't seem a very heady way to start to recruit in this area by making accusations that sounds like BYU is dirty.



How incredible of a U of U BB team this season with ZERO Utah players. Doesn't say much for the school when your neighbor is pocked full of them and going to the Sweet Sixteen. Eat our dirt Pukes!

It is lame that Coach k implied that BYU was doing something shady when it sounds like the Sharps were the ones to initiate contact. Sorry pal, but you are taking over a program in disarray and you don't have to coax people to flee a burning building.



I also think it really says something that the U doesn't have any players from Utah. Locals know that the program is in trouble and stay away.

Coach Kry is, correctly, saying it doesn't matter who initiates the contact. If he was enrolled at Utah, no school can talk to him without Utah's consent. Unfortunately, the rules don't restrict family from talking. Given how Coach Kry came out in his first few days as coach that he wasn't going to honor any offer to missionaries from the previous coach (which is understandable) he shouldn't be surprised that a missionary's family told the missionary that. And then that the missionary wants to look elsewhere to play.



I wouldn't be surprised if BYU has yet to have any direct contact with Sharp. That it's all been done by his family.

How is this possible? I mean, the :utard:'s are in the Pac-12 now!

Too right! I mean who wouldn't want to play for a team that in the last two years almost won as many games as BYU!



It will take into Coach Kry's third season at Utah to match BYU's win total in 2010-2011.

Great article at ESPN on this additon of Josh Sharp to the Cougars. I like what they quote Jim Boylen saying about Sharp.

Your point is valid (although I think we need 4s and 5s more than 1s and 2s), but at this point, beggars can't be choosers. We had a roster spot open up very late (Anderson deciding without warning after the NCAA tourney that he wasn't coming back), and any decent talent that would be available for 2011-12 is already committed elsewhere.

What is the most cool about all of this....it's June and we're still talkin BYU BB. When did that last happen?

As for positional needs, we are lucky to fill the empty schollie with a Div 1 player. Plus, I read that he is 6'8" now, same as Hartsock and Rogers but both those guys like to play outside. I really liked how Kyle Collinsworth played after Davies got suspended, and it sounds like Sharp could play a similar role, just two inches taller.

I hope the best for him. I hope he is pumping steel to work on those guns. That high school picture he looked anemic. If he's grown an inch maybe he's filled out a bit as well. Anyway I'm sure the Pope will school him!
