Best Ever--HB/Slash-back Edition

We're doing this each week to get us through the Spring/Summer doldrums. Monday I'll set the position and let you all submit names for consideration. After a couple of days, I'll take your nominations and create a poll thread to open up the voting as well as a more pointed debate, with a CougarCorner winner being crowned each Sunday evening.



This week = the half-backs or slash-backs---who do you think is in the conversation for best ever? Let me know your preference as well for how many to put on the team--one, or two?

Matt Bellini

Staley, Jenkins.

Jamal Willis, Harvey Unga, Curtis Brown, Lakei Heimuli, Peter Tuipulotu, in that order.



(Of course, my only includes those not nominated already, so that shouldn't be interpreted to mean that I think Tuipulotu gets in ahead of Staley.)

Staley/Unga/Brown should definitely be saved for the true RB discussion.



I'm going with Mahe and Jenkins. Both were incredibly exciting players

Matt Bellini and Reno Mahe are the two that I immediately think of for H-back/Slash.



I assume there is a separate category for running back which would have the likes of: Staley, Unga, Willis, Brown, Jenkins, Etc.

Because when we did slot receivers there was grousing because some of these slot-type players weren't true receivers, nor were they true runningbacks. Just trying to give each player/position their due.

I'm just not sure Reno, Smith, Bellini are "best-ever" type players. Very good, but not best ever. Certainly not better than some other guys who were left off.

Now that I understand the category a little better, I definitely have to second Kelly Smith. Based on stats alone, it still seems like Curtis Brown deserves a mention (the dude is #9 all-time in career receptions!), and we should also add Scott Phillips (good stats, ran in the second-to-last TD in the Miracle bowl, caught the ensuing 2-pointer). Bellini runs away with this one, though. Absolute stud.
