College Football News ranks Bronco at 10th



I can't argue with his ranking... Considering who's ranked ahead of him. Glad to see Bronco flying under the radar. Sorta :skeptic:

Shhhhhhh. Mendenhall might be the best kept secret in college football. After four straight ten-win seasons, he struggled last year early on before a late rally once the schedule eased up and a bowl win to turned the season around. Yes, he gets the benefit of coaching several mature, older, married players who come back as men from Church missions, but he also has to deal with losing some of his key parts for a few years before they return. A terrific defensive mind, his teams are always aggressive and always tough, while he’s doing a solid job of recruiting the offensive talent needed to make the attack shine.

Hot Seat Status: None. He restored the glory at BYU and the football faithful have no interest in losing him.

The Coaching Change Will Come … In five years. He’s only 45 and will get several big job offers over the next few seasons, but he appears to love being at BYU. Now that the program is an independent, he’s ushering in a new era and should be able to be in the mix for BCS games with just a few key wins a year – and no mistakes against the layups. However, there will be a too-good-to-pass-up offer in the near future (watch out when Oregon State, his alma mater, eventually comes calling).

The last sentence tells you just how plugged into Bronco this guy isn't. Bronco has made it pretty clear that he doesn't have much of an affinity for Oregon State. The only reason he went there was because they played BYU, who had snubbed him, and he wanted to pay BYU back. He's stated a number of times how disappointed he was after they knocked off BYU.....the experience at Oregon State was something he endured for a shot at revenge.



Bronco to the Beavers is a non-starter.

True dat. But Bronco hasn't cut ties with Oregon St. completely, since Bronco, his wife are great friends with Mike R. and his wife.



Maybe the author had that in consideration -- maybe not.



As for your comment. I remember Bronco talking, about laying on the 50 yard line after he and Oregon St. came into Provo and beat BYU. Just laid there with a sense of victory. His life was so focused on revenge, he asked himself walking way... "No what?"

Sorry, any list that currently has Jim Tressel on it must be discounted. He's an admitted liar and cheat.

I think Bronco is on record saying that if he ever left BYU, he would prefer to coach at Army, Navy, AFA, or perhaps Stanford or Northwestern. Places where football is not #1 and academics are very important. That seems to be a theme with Bronco. He loves football, and wants kids who love football, but he places a higher value on life balance.
