Ute Football Season Renewal Hits 98%

32,000 tickets renewed for near perfect rate



SALT LAKE CITY--The renewal period has ended for 2011 Utah football season tickets and an unprecedented 98-percent of season ticket holders have renewed their seats for Utah’s inaugural year in the Pac-12.



“This renewal rate is not only the highest I've ever seen at Utah, but that I've experienced anywhere,” said Zack Lassiter, assistant athletics director over Utah’s ticket operations. “It is another example of the kind of support our city gives our football team.”



Yewts are all wetting themselves talking about what awesome fans they are and how they always have been fans. This is the best they have ever had, really? they have had damn good success in the past and this is the best. Where have they been?



Honestly, I wish the yewts success in the pac, however, a couple middle of the pac years and tickets will be given away again and prove what we have all know about yewtie fans.

Not so sure about that. WIth USC, UCLA, ORegon, UW, etc coming in more regularly, and a stadium that is not huge, tickets will sell. If they had a stadium the size of LES, it might be different . But they can fill that stadium just fine.



Regardless,, do not care. Good luck to them every year, until we get to smash them.

Yea, I'd be more willing to go to a Ute game if someone threw me a ticket and asked if I wanted to go with the teams that will be coming through for the conference season. It would be fun to watch them lose over and over again.



It would be interesting to see what their rate of renewels have been in the past. That does sound like a high number, but at only 32K, that doesn't sound quite impressive for a PUKE12 conference team. It will be interesting to see how the Puke fans respond when their team is middle of the road conference team year after year.

There are lots and lots of new money Ute fans that have not experienced the Utah tradition of losing seasons. When I moved to Utah in 2002, I remember Utah football tickets on sell at the SLC Costco. =)



A few back to back 5-7 seasons will likely see Utah tickets back on the Blue Light Special.

We'll see how they are selling in a few years when they are perennial bottom dwellers.

Coming off of a 10-3 season with a returning quarterback, off-season addition of a marquee coach in Chow, first season in PAC12, pretty good home schedule (i.e. not loaded with patsies like BYU's home schedule this Fall).



I can understand 98% of season ticket holders renewing--even if you don't go to the games, you're likely to be able to recoup your investment or a good chunk of it by hawking a couple of your tickets on stubhub.

When BYU's home schedule ramps up, you will see a lot of people buying season tickets to both programs, especially with BYU playing a lot of Thursday, Friday and Saturday night games. I think that if the teams can, they will try and schedule games at different times.

That sounds terrible. I hope BYU continues to play mostly Saturday afternoon home games.

I don't think there are any terrible BYU home games or schedule of games. BYU could play at 3am on a Wednesday morning and I'll be there in person for a home game or in front of the TV for a road game. What's terrible is a game that I can't see in any way shape or form.

Terrible probably is too strong of a word, but I'd rather watch a BYU game at the stadium at noon then at 8pm. Of course, I'd be at either one.

I'm just saying for the college football fan that might not be a fan of either team in the market will buy season tickets to both. BYU fans will of course pick Cougars over the Utes if the games are at the same time, and vice versa, but there will be people buying both just because the games are good.

My Dad is one of those people. He is a U grad who has had BYU season tickets for 20+ years but had a friend who was buying in last year to make sure he would have tickets this season. My dad bought one seat and then decides which game is better.



I would object to this except that I get his extra ticket to the Y game when he choses the U.



They were trying to play the "BYU fan is jealous of Utah" on the radio today. They were talking about all the new fans that Utah has. I just had to laugh since I know so many bandwagon fans up there who are as fickle as can be the minute something happens (TCU blackout game anyone!).

The blackout game was an awesome example of a spoiled, poorly educated fan base. They booed before HALF TIME. TCU was favored, were clearly better, but most Ute fans thought since it was at home, they would win for sure, in spite of TCU's awesome road play that season and the previous. I was in SLC with my wife when it went down shopping at Trolley Square and the Gateway as it was our anniversary weekend, and the silence was awesome. Fans coming off the Traxx trains all were silent and acted like they had a death in the family. I imagine the rude awakening they get to road games in the PAC-12 will be just as awesome. I think 6-6 is a legite chance for Utah this year. They are in a HUGE transition on both sides of the ball, and I do not care if Wynn comes back healthy. They lost a ton the last 2 years. So while there will be some fun games at RES next year, not sure the 2011 Utes are up to it. They will be like BYU 2010. And it will shock many Utes, like it shocked us, how BYU started the year.

I came in 2001 and I remember someone giving our youth group a load of tickets for free.

And the MUSS was bragging about their support for weeks after they got demolished. How awesome the black out was.



It's not that tough to get 30K people to wear black shirts when they pass out 28K shirts for free. The rest kinda blend in.
