LOL. With their totally-awesome new TV deal, the Utes have all of one game on the ESPN family of networks---the BYU game that is being televised under BYU's contract. In contrast, CU and Washington State EACH got a PAC12 game on the ESPN family under the PAC12 contract.

I don't see them getting picked up on any of the TBD dates either--ESPN would have to pick Utah at Arizona over Oregon at Washington and Stanford at Oregon State; or UCLA @ Utah over Oregon at Stanford, Washington at USC and Oregon State at Cal; or Utah at Washington State over (I'm not going to even look up the other match-ups....that one is not getting aired with Cal-Stanford the same day); or finally Colorado @ Utah over UCLA @ USC.

Gotta love being #12 on the priority list. Hope they are getting paid oodles of money to compensate them for playing on MTN v2.0

That is funny. But I am sure that the pac10 wanted them over us because they bring in more tv sets. It was obviously all about money and not about religious bigotry with the pac10.

You probably knew this but the Pac-12 media deal doesn't start until 2012. Utah will probably most of their games on FSN or VS. for this year.

i.e. regional coverage or back to the MTN.

I think this pretty much puts to bed the fact that Utah got added for their market and what they bring to the table in football. They got the cold shoulder. Pretty sweet does of reality right there.

Of course, if they get many Fox games, that is still better than the MTN.

The FSN games probably won't be regional and as we know VS. actually has pretty decent distribution (70 million households about the same as ESPNU). It's pretty much a lock that Utah upgraded their tv platform this year even though they are clearly playing 2nd fiddle in their new conference.

I'm curious what all those arrogant FrUte fans have to say about this. A lot of them thought they were brought on for the Utah market.

Versus is NOT part of this TV deal after next year, so just a 1 year deal, which I think they can deal with. ThE other supporting network in the 2012 deal is FX, also a Fox national network. So the issues with Utah is whether Fox picks up some games, or they all get dumped on FX. Fox will release their TV schedule soon, and then we will see how many games go to Versus. I suspect most conference games will be on Fox, the OOC home games Versus. Same moving forward. Utah could be the flagship team of FX starting in 2012.

FSN is only regional. There is no nationwide FSN, only FSN-Utah, FSN-Rockies, etc. Jazz games are shown on FSN-Utah, but not on FSN-Rockies. FSN Rockies shows Nuggets games, but FSN-Utah does not. FSN-Boston and FSN-Dallas, among many others, are not going to be carrying PAC12 games when FSN has deals with the BigXII and ACC as well.

So it's a pick your poison--a regional carrier that people know how to find on their TV, or a quasi-national broadcast on a channel that most people don't realize is in their package.

Sno, you left out a poison, the most deadly poison, the poison that make the two you mentioned look like elixirs of health +5, the poison of being a Ewet :utard: :utard: .

Dude, I didn't want to correct you in front of everybody, but, dang it buddy, some things have to be corrected betimes. Of course, I do realize that in the middle of the night, the Lord woke you and and told you of this mistake and you were going to correct it as soon as possible, but.....

If you read the Fox press release, the football games will not be on Fox regional, but on Fox Sports national. Same as the NFL. They get multiple games a year and guaranteed 8 primetime games on Fox Sports, which had the BCS and I suppose sees the value in entering the CFB market now. Other football games gon on FX, also a national network. Basketball games get FSN networks, but not football. Basically, the PAC-12 scored several national networks with the deal starting in 2012. It is actually an impressive deal. The issue will be to see how many games Utah ends up on FX, rather than Fox or ESPN.

No, that's not how it works.

Although FSN is made up several regional network partners that also happen to have regional contracts with pro sports teams, they also have national programming as well. FSN will actually schedule one and only one college football game during a particular time slot for ALL of their affiliates to broadcast.

Here is a typical week in the college football season. Notice the distribution of the FSN "national" games OSU-Baylor, OU-Texas A&M, and USC-ASU vs. a regional only game such as Cal-WSU.

You'll notice that not all of the FSN stations are carrying those "national" games--e.g. that OSU-Baylor game is not being carried on FSN-Utah.

Actually, Utah was covered by FS Rocky Mountain which routinely sends programming to Utah (but not Nuggets games per NBA tv contracts hence the need for FSN Utah). It's now called Root Sports Rocky Mountain.

Your red herring aside, are you saying a game that is broadcast in Seattle, Atlanta, Phoenix, Denver, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, LA, and New York, among others is somehow regional? You might want to check your definition of regional.

I did not know that FSN-Utah was under FSN-Rocky Mountain. I would assume that it is the same set-up then for FSN-Cincinnati and FSN-Columbus under FSN-Ohio etc.

As for my definition of national, I don't consider it national if the local/regional affiliates get to choose whether to pick up the game or not. If it's not showing on ALL the affiliates, it's not national. It's regional with a lot of regions picking it up and some passing on it.

That said, if you have correctly described the FSN relationship--the head FSN mandating that all FSN affiliates carry the games--then they are national. Still not ESPN level of exposure, but national nonetheless.
