Most-Hated BYU Great

Some of the comments mentioned on the All-Time BYU team got me thinking. Who is the most hated BYU great? I mean most hated by BYU fans and alums. (Not most hated by Utah alums - Max Hall, Austin Collie, Luke Staley...)



So from the individuals associated with the BYU football program that made a significant positive impact to the program, who is currently most dis-favored (hated) by those who love BYU?



Vote other and list anyone significant that I didn't mention.



I left all of the Utah coaching staff off the list except for Chow because BYU fans not liking him has less to do with his current employer then his other colleagues.

There are only 2 possibilities in my mind, Jim McMahon who is both loved and reviled by current BYU fans, and Kyle Whittingham who is mostly just hated now.

Only one of them demolished the football program to the point that eliminating athletics at BYU was put on the table as an option.

Just as "great" as Whittingham and Anae.

I'd call 1 win from a BCS game great. But that is just me. After that, was a great failure at BYU. So, yeah, great.



I have heard too many people talk about what great guys all of this list is away from football, even if a bit quirky, so I can not vote for any. I despise hated lists.

I voted Todd simply because I never, ever heard him stand up for BYU, especially when he was on the mtn. I understand the need to be unbiased but he swung the other way so far that he seemed very negative at times toward the "Y". I hate his vocabulary attempts. I hated his hair on American Gladiators,I hated the team he played for in the NFL and I hated that his son never amounted to anything despite the genetic potential!



There, now I feel better.

I know people who go to church with Todd Christensen and tell me he is True Blue all the way, and one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. His on air TV persona is one thing, the man is another. Todd Christensen could act like Greg Wrubell if KSL/BYU were paying him, but they aren't. And as for the vocabulary issues, eh--big deal.

Only Todd Christiansen and Jim McMahon on that list qualify as being "great" as far as BYU terms go. Chow is close but he gets a lot more credit for BYU's offense then he deserves IMO since he really was only the official Ocoordinator for a couple of years. Frankly, the most hated BYU "great" isn't even on the list and IMO it isn't even close. John Walsh.



To the guy that berated Todd C. You may have the perspective that he has become some sort of BYU hater on the mountain, but nothing could be further from the truth. Dude is BYU through and through. I heard him interviewed during rivalry week on one of the local talk radio shows and they asked him to talk some smack about utah and he did the sweetest beat down I have ever heard. Went something like thes "When I played at BYU, there was no rivalry, we beat the pants off of utah all 4 years and it wasn't even close". I've been a Todd C. fan ever since, I don't care what stupid things he says on the air.

I wouldn't say that one successful season makes a coach great.

I don't hate any of those. I don't enjoy Todd C. I thought Crowton was a classy coach that just didn't work out. Anae I didn't enjoy as the OC, but he's a good guy. I'd have to agree with some and KW should have been on there. He would be worthy of disliking significantly. He is about as close to being on a hated list I might have as anyone.

Had to vote for Crowton. 3 losing seasons out of 4 and the off-field problems nearly took down a great program.



He had one good year (with Lavells recruits) so I'm not sure he was great however.



I might have voted for Kyle if he had been included on the list.

My wife sat in the broadcast booth, traveled to all the bowl games and a lot of the away games, and was at most team functions for many years. She has very good things to say about most of the coaches and players, and very little bad to say, with only a few exceptions. She doesn't care much for Jim McMahon, and she really has a problem with Fred Whittingham. She says that he is one of the most arrogant people she has ever known, and that his son is just like him.



When Crowton left and KW was offered the job, I was all for it. She told me I was crazy and that I would see that he was not all that savory a character, and that Bronco was the man. Well, what she said about KW has certainly panned out. I am sooooooooo glad that he is not our coach. Crowton did enough things to embarrass the university and the fans without on-side kicking with a 30 point lead near the end of the game, etc., etc., then making completely asinine excuses to make sure that the whole world knows what a jerk he is. My vote is for KW, irrespective of his affiliation with :utard: , just based on what a complete moronic jerk he has turned out to be. How many times can I vote?????

Voted other. Kryle has my complete vote.

Now if we had a poll for the most annoying ex-BYU great, my points would go to Todd C. He's done well for himself, but he's so annoying to listen to.

Really can't vote to hate any BYU great.

Yeah, but even if they had won that last regular season game, BYU still wouldn't have gone to a BCS game. Crowton was told BYU would not be considered before the loss:

He was WAC defensive player of the year on one of the top 3 or 4 defenses all-time at BYU. He was a pretty good player on some of Lavell's best teams.
