Best Ever--Full-Backs Edition

We're doing this each week to get us through the Spring/Summer doldrums. Monday I'll set the position and let you all submit names for consideration. After a couple of days, I'll take your nominations and create a poll thread to open up the voting as well as a more pointed debate, with a CougarCorner winner being crowned each Sunday evening.



This week = the full-back---who do you think is in the conversation for best ever?

Todd Christensen is an interesting choice because of his great success in the NFL at tight end. He is clearly the most decorated NFL tight end BYU has ever produced. No other tight end really comes close in career receptions, receptions in a year, etc.



As to fullbacks, it is Christensen, Tahi, Tonga and Vaikapuna. Those 4 top the list.

Ugh....Todd Christensen....I think his stats should be reduced retroactively because of his color commentary.



Kalin Hall may not make the 2-deep, but he should be in the discussion

Also, what do we do about guys like Dustin Johnson that were clearly fullbacks but listed as RB in the official school roster?

I say if a guy played FB you list him, regardless of what the official roster lists. But that's just my humble opinion.

I like the list, and Todd Christensen is at the top. He was as great a fullback at BYU as he was a pro tight end. He was used the same way in both positions. The raiders wouldn't have used him the same way as a fullback. He was a large part of what made BYU successful during his career.



Many of you may not know this, but he was drafted by Dallas, who wanted to make him a tight end, but he, not realizing that it would be a boon to his career, wanted to remain a fullback. Dallas then traded him to Oakland, who wanted to make him a tight end, but he wanted to remain a fullback, so they basically said, "fine, sit on the bench until we cut you." The rest, as they say, is history!
