Pointless Predictions

Gentlemen, it's been a while . . . which is surely to your benefit. Because I have few things better to do this evening, I would like to make a few pointless, blue-goggled predictions for this upcoming season.



1. BYU will go undefeated.



Sure, it's a tall order, but it's not too tall. There is not a single team that BYU should lose to. The best teams on our schedule will be vulnerable, at least when we play them. Best of all, many of those same teams will have season enough after we play them to regain some steam and finish out the season strong.



2. Jake Heaps will play like a junior.



He won't be perfect, but he won't be a sophomore. The difference between a sophomore and a senior is that a sophomore will lose you the close games, and a senior will win them. The junior QB rarely does either. We will be lucky to have a QB so far up the curve.



3. BYU will get TONS of ESPN promotion.



This just makes sense. But I mean this in regards to the BCS. BYU will get their name dropped time and time again by our not-so-silent lovers in Bristol. Man, that contract is looking better every day.



4. Reynolds will get drafted in the 1st round.



I'm betting that he doesn't give up a single sack this year. And that's really not a hard bet to wager.



5. BYU will pummel Utah.



Enough with the close games. This will be the year BYU gets ahead in the 1st half, and where in years past Utah snuck back into the game because of their affiliation with Satan himself, this year we will blow them out of the water in Q3. Rather than win by 3 points, it will be at least by 3 touchdowns.



Write it down.

3. I wouldn't be surprised to see a BYU highlight every time sportscenter cranks up.

4. How many sack did reynolds give up as a Jr?

5. I've felt since the last game vs utah that BYU would just dominate this year. Should've happened last year, WILL happen this year. (What happened last time a BYU team faced a Norm Chow led offense?) :)

Ya, imagine if ucla hated BYU as much as utah does...that score would've been closer simply as hate being their biggest motivation (see ute propaganda thread)

Yeah, the Utes suck, and I say that this is the year that we roll 'em. I also agree that we should win all of our scheduled games, considering the circumstances. But an improbable result can materialize at least once out of twelve samplings. Some upstart team could play completely out of their brains and catch some lucky breaks against us. Still, it is plausible that we could win them all.



All is good with the Ute match-up this year, being in Provo. Regarding road games against them, I am not looking forward to seeing my Cougars being abused by PAC 10 cheating officials at RES. I would be all for refusing to play them there. It would hurt them more than it would us to ignore them. BYU to them will be a bigger game than those against all but 2or 3 PAC 10 opponents. Anybody else think that it would be a good thing to only see the 'tards every other year in Provo, or at neutral sites, or not at all?

I also wouldn't care if we dropped the ute series completely. I thought I would, but after thinking about it for a while, wouldn't mind at all.



I hope we keep the utah state series though, just as an easy punching bag and I don't mind helping them out with attendance every other year.

I am down with dropping utah as well. sad to lose the rivalry but I don't want to help those morons anymore. unless they want to keep playing us in november i say drop them.

I think the order of probability of McGregor's predictions are #2 most likely, then 5, 4, 3, and 1 being the least likely.



I think Heaps is going to be very good. I'm pretty certain BYU beats Utah, but a blowout would be modestly surprising. Reynold's injury history, age, and BYU's track record for producing 1st round talent makes me think that Reynolds going in the first round is possible, but not probable.



BYU's games are on ESPN, but I don't think that's going to lead to substantially more promotion. If BYU is in the top 25 or they play a top 25 team then their highlights will be on Sportscenter. If BYU isn't in the top 25 or they aren't playing anybody good then they will be an afterthought. This is how it was when they are on the MTN. I don't see that changing anytime soon. ESPN has invested very little in BYU compared to what they have invested in other conferences. There is no reason for ESPN to promote BYU anymore than they promote Ole Miss.



I'd be thrilled if BYU goes undefeated, but that isn't going to happen. Road games against Texas, TCU, and Oregon State make a loss all but certain. Hawaii and Ole Miss have enough talent to get a traveling BYU team as well.

I like BYU at 10-2, but you never know. Get some breaks, like TCU did in their 2 years where they ran it, and as Utah did in 2008, and it could happen. Just need the breaks to go your way in the big games, and to punish the rest so a break makes no difference. I like out chances of punishing some teams this year--even good teams. Just need the breaks in the big games. If it happens. great shot at getting it done.

I would like to bear my testimony to everything that mcgregor posted. I know that the Church of the Undefeated Season is the only true and living football church in the world. I will wear my blue goggles all my eternal life... :crazy: 8) :P

My predictions for end of regular season records.

BYU 12-0

Texas 11-1

TCU 11-1

Mississippi 12-1

OSU 12-1

UCF 12-1

Hawaii 12-1

Utah 10-3 (including two losses to OSU gets an invite to the NM bowl)

SJSU, Idaho, USU, NMSU finish only with losses to each other and Hawaii

ISU - 10-1 and eventual FCS champions

That's what I'm talking about. And all those one loss programs would all be in BCS contention with the top 5 definitely playing in BCS games and UCF likely to get an invite. Of course, BYU would be in the title game with that resume. Except, I'd rather see Utah State go 12-1 rather than Hawaii.





It could happen.

Only reason I put Hawaii at 12-1 was so ESPN could market the game as 11-0 BYU vs 12-0 Hawaii for a spot in the NCG.

I am in this boat. i expect a 10 win season with a shot at undefeated if things break our way. to realistically expect an undefeated season with our schedule is a long shot, but definitely doable.
