West Virginia transfer QB Barry Brunetti has been cleared by the NCAA to play immediately this year without sitting out following his transfer. He is supposed to be a very good dual-threat QB. He probably will win the starting job come fall. Or maybe Ole Miss will not be able to decide between their QB's and use two...

I guess this evens out the loss of their best LB to an ACL a little bit...

the NCAA rulings, as has been discussed here ad nauseum (channeling my inner todd christensen there), seem to be more based upon the school involved than upon the student athletes situation. Hence, if this were BYU, immediate, rubber stamp response of DENIED. If it's another school they'll consider it and most likely approve it.

Can't wait for fall camp to start, I'm bored already.

Seriously, BYU players get caught up in month to year long battles with the NCAA. I still don't get why Kaveinga, understanding what a craphole USC was, had to sit because he had the foresight to get out earlier than other players.

We saw how they ended up with Oregon's Masoli last year.

I think we'll be alright.

I totally get what you're bent about, but hindsight is always 20/20. We did pretty well all things considering. I don't think Kaveinga would have made much of a difference. Since the type of a wreck we were on D with Hill in charge. Cause we all saw what type of talent our athletes truly are.

BUT I would be more than welcomming to have Kaveinga prove me wrong this season. ;) And I know he's a baller!

That's bull crap once again. Masoli get kicked out again? It's so hard to keep track of all the "favors" the dirty ncaa does for the dirty BcS.

Speaking of dirty, guess who just spent a weekend getaway hosted by the Fiesta Bowl to try to sway the vote? That's right 9 of 11 NCAA investigators.

I hope they brokebacked each other.

That weekend happened in 2009, and is part of the report. It was not recent. It might have been extravagant, but by all accounts, was not unusual in the business world. That what corporate accounts for T&E are for.

The NCAA is not dirty. The NCAA is underfunded for compliance and not staffed to handle all of the claims it has to investigate. That is why schools go for it. Similar to tax evaders. Long shot you get caught, and if you do, the penalty won't be all that bad unless it is a major violation.

The NCAA may not be dirty (still up for debate), what's for sure is that they're downright cowardly. Giving USC a slap on the wrist after all the crap that went down there, looking the other way with everything that happens in the SEC, refusing to step in and do anything about the BCS monopoly, sitting back and allowing a terrible interpretation of Title IX to ruin men's college athletics, etc. etc. etc.

I thought the Fiesta bowl was a tax exempt charitable organization...

Did anyone actually read the article?

It could all be a load of bull (and maybe it is), but it sounds like they were doing this to accommodate the mother that got in a bad car accident, and couldn't travel to her son's games anymore.

The coach he was transferring from (W. Va) wrote a letter to the extent of the situation, and everything sounds like it was pretty well documented.

-- I mean, Houston Nutt is the one getting the transfer, so that raises red flags in and of itself. But if it is so a kid can play in front of his family, that is under medical hardship and can't travel, then I can't see the NCAA making him withdraw for a year if it is well documented. (And it sounds like it was.) With how fast it happened, it seemed like a pretty open and shut, slam dunk case for the NCAA.

Everyone isn't always out to get BYU... I bet if the same thing happened for us, someone would let them come and not sit out. (Again, I am not saying this is all faked, or not. I don't know. But it seems pretty open-shut, when you bring a student's family into it.)

haha!! Their filing status may be such but they clearly aren't hurting for profits if they can afford thousands of dollars at strip clubs (sure your post was TIC).

Point is, the rules for non-profits and foundations allow for travel and entertainment expenses. Business judgment rules apply. So if you are flush with cash, and want to do something for your board or fundraisers, or partners, you can. It is not disallowed. Issue is whether is was too much or not. And that is the point. Not that they did it, but did they spend too much?

But really, this is a tangent from the main accusations, which is did the Fiesta Bowl Chair coerce employees to contribute to certain political leaders/partes (Read:Republicans) then reimburse them with non-profit funds, in violation of law. That is the central issue in this mess.

Point well taken. But don't some of their expenditures, not in amount but in purpose, shock the conscience? even a little bit? I'm not talking LDS conscience either, just general joe-blow conscience?

There's always an excuse, there's always a reason. Ask Derek Fisher about moving to LA to be closer to New York. Also, since you're all about explaining things away, give us the reasoning for Kaveinga sitting and Masoli playing last year, especially in light of how many NCAA violations these schools have had vs BYU.

Masoli found a loop hole if I remember right something about a grad program or something I cant really remember...

Quite frankly, I am glad Kavienga did not waste a year of eligibility on last season and hope he sticks around to use all of his eligibility on winning seasons.
