Argument for BYU to the Big XII

Pretty good arguments, but you have to recognize that this particular bleacherreport contributor is a BYU-fan whose articles primarily address why the Big XII should add BYU:

I think this is a whole lot of wishful thinking. The idea that conference championships actually help teams' BCS chances is a myth. See the Big 12 championship in 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2003 for examples.



I thought the argument that BYU would somehow lift the Big 12's basketball prestige was hilarious. A team with zero Final Fours and an elite 8 drought going on its fourth decade isn't going to lift the Big 12 basketball reputation. And basketball doesn't matter from a expansion standpoint anyway.



I would love for BYU to be in the Big 12. But unfortunately, the Big 12 is getting its money despite losing Nebraska, CU, and a conference championship game. BYU doesn't add enough from a money or prestige standpoint at this time.

The only argument I see from the Big12 perspective is they could move to a 8-game conference schedule without facing a PR problem if they add an 11th team.



You can expect to see a lot fewer BCS championship games with Big12 and Pac12 teams as they are the only major conferences with 9 game conference schedules.



Aside from that I don't see much upside. Which is fine with me, as long as BYU wins as an independent, I'm fine with independence.

i'd almost RATHER be independent than join any conference out there.

My profs from various Big 12, SEC schools want BYU...badly.



Apparently BYU is first in the nation with proportion of Y undergrads continuing to get PhDs...in fact the Human Sciences building is looming with mormons from top (2 members of the stake presidency run the MFT/Addictions department) to bottom (tons of grad students like myself continue the Y pipeline and departments know it too. When it comes to talking about sports, BYU comes up as the first possibility. The ongoing joke is that CU could be replaced by anyone including community colleges..and they truly believe that, ha!
