Best Ever--Receivers Edition

We're doing this each week to get us through the Spring/Summer doldrums. Monday I'll set the position and let you all submit names for consideration. After a couple of days, I'll take your nominations and create a poll thread to open up the voting as well as a more pointed debate, with a CougarCorner winner being crowned each Sunday evening.



This week = the receivers---who do you think is in the conversation for best ever? Don't be afraid to date yourself either!

The first, the obvious:

2nd tier

Glen Kozlowski

Todd Watkins

My dad would kill me if I let this go on without nominating Jay Miller--the guy who made Sheide look good and kick-start the BYU aerial attack.



Clay Brown should probably be in the conversation.

I was saving Clay Brown for TE discussion. Jay Miller deserves to be in the conversation.

Probably on the second tier list: K.O. Kealaluhi. Led BYU in receiving during the 1996-1997 season, with 901 yards and 8 TD's including the game winner during the 1997 Cotton Bowl.

Andy Boyce should be in the discussion.

Adam Haysbert. No NC if not for that catch in the Pittsburgh game. I'd put Kozlowski in the first tier.

I concur. These were the first three names that popped into my mind. If you are looking for the greatest ever, I don't know how you can argue against Austin Collie. Throwing around any of the older player's names is like trying to argue that Jerry West was better than Michael Jordan.



Of the three above I would actually rank them Collie 1, Drage 2, and Cahoon 3. At time of graduation Cahoon wouldn't have even been in the all time great discussion, but his pro career really shows how great he was. Back in 1996 I thought of him as a clutch receiver but he didn't really rise above K.O. and Kiapo McGuire back then.

I think there needs to be an H-back/Slash position on the Best Ever list. Guys like Reno Mahe and Matt Bellini would fall under this category. They were used in multiple alignments and were amazing talents, but their position wasn't really that defined and they probably couldn't be argued as best ever in any single position but were incredible to watch.

I agree with this.

Todd Christensen falls under the H-back as well, and I assume he wraps up that award pretty quickly. Just my opinion, though.

I agree with this.

It's done. Looking ahead, we might have to run two polls in the same week occasionally if we are going to wrap this up by the Ole Miss game.

Can't leave out Mark Bellini who ran with Koz.



According to my inside info Golden Richards was booted off the team for stealing money out of teammates lockers and finished elsewhere. He has had numerous embarrassments since.



So if we include the Golden boy then we should include the pot smoking galloping Greek Chris Farasoupholous sp in the RB category.



Todd Christensen was a fullback at BYU and Dallas before the rRaiders made him into an all-pro tight end.

Collie has had a couple outstanding injury -prone years in the NFL.



Cahoon is the all-time leading receiver for an entire league (even if it is Canada). How is Collie better? Or are we just looking at college careers...

I think that pro careers have some influence in the vote... And Cahoon's NFL numbers are way behind Collie's (and about equal to yours and mine). That's why Collie comes in in front of Cahoon
