Beigel bouncin to Wisc

Never thought otherwise, good luck to you as a badger! Would've been the wrong fit for BYU.

1-utah never had a shot....even with pac10.2

2-wisc/nebraska red out is all what Beigel wanted

3-Heaps must not have spoken to him ever

4-BYU is loaded at LBs-good ones

5-Bronco told Beigel he probably wouldn't start, or would have to earn a spot.

6-Didn't want to serve a mission.

7-people in Wisc say exspecially instead of especially, he wants to keep saying it that way.

8-wants to experience a pac10-like mistake, find out the schools environment is bad and transfer like our recent additions.

Biegel isn't a mission kid, so his chances of ending up at BYU are slim should he hold his committment...early commits almost always hold

Any thoughts how we lost this kid? Did his Dad not really enjoy his time at BYU? Maybe it was hard for Biegel to be a BYU fan growing up because he had local cable that didn't have the MTN...

I know some people will say BYU is not for everyone, but I still think there is no reason BYU should lose out on these top LDS talents who also appear to be overall good kids.

I grew up out east and had amazing options, but ultimately my parents being huge BYU fans made it such that I always came back to choosing BYU. I'm back east again and love it here, but I would never trade that experience at BYU for any of the undergrad experiences my east coast friends talk about. Heres to hoping that ESPN and winning over the next few years will make these stories of losing top LDS talent less frequent.

On a serious note Bronco mentioned top LDS players often don't serve missions, we know some do, but generally don't when going someplace else. If he doesn't that's how it goes.



His dad was interviewed and did not even recommend it, at least that's how I felt. As I study parental relationships and emerging adults, he was very cautious about how he influenced his son and I think he was too conscious and worried about pressuring him...so much so that there was little family tie-ins to BYU.



Wisconsin has some momentum and has a great fan base as well, that's enough for him I suppose. I can't imagine he chose to go there just to represent his faith though, it's got to be the program and atmosphere.



+1 lawboy, I also think BYU clearly put efforts into Hinds, which should payoff and be better anyways. Hinds either goes to BYU or leaves the state.

Losing 1 player at a deeper position for BYU typically--a 3*--will not kill us. Seriously, he was a solid to great recruit, but not a must get. Now Troy Hinds--he is a must get. A Utah kid that is 4+ rated, and as good as advertised, who plays a position that could really help our D. I would place a few other above Biegel.



HAving said that, losing the son of a former player to a local state school still stinks. Dad did not play up his BYU ties enough. Simple as that. Rocky needed to be more proud of what he did at BYU and where it got him.

And going to the Mecca of liberalism. Not a lot of people are aware of just how over the top it is there. Good luck. I know I am hung to do everything to get my kids to go to one of the BYU's. And if my sons were the number one ranked kid I would still put the full court press on him. I think it is too important to go to the right environment. What doth it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul.

I'm telling you right now, that as soon as BYU becomes more of a steady NFL pipeline, we get these kids. BYU has had sporadic success getting kids in the NFL on the D side of the ball. Much more success on offense, which is why BYU can attract QBs, TEs and O-line guys so easily. Collie and Unga will help with getting top WR and RB talent, we just need to get more guys in the NFL on D, and more regularly. If the NFL is your dream, you would look at the track record of a school in getting kids there. I honestly do not know how the Badgers do in that area, just that BYU has not been as great as they once were. That tide seems to be changing, and when it days, we lock of players like Biegel.

Just three years ago I watched a Pittsburg Steelers game that played an all BYU d-line. We have some great BYU D players out there but I don't think they get the press they deserve. Concerning that game I thought it rather interesting that the commentators never did mention how all three starters were from the same school. But I bet had they been from Ohio State or Florida (or any SEC team for that matter) they would have made a big deal of it. Anyways, it was pretty impressive to see three players from BYU lineup on the field at the same time.

And here I was hoping to hear the pads crackle again.

The only complaint that I have about Bronco as a coach is that he hasn't put many players in the NFL. Once he gets players there consistently, we will get these players.

Considering the state of the program when he inherited it, and the fact that he went for culture fits first of foremost his first 2-3 years with recruits due the HC mess that happened under GC, give it time. It is about to happen in 2-3 years. The talent level has gone up over the last 4 recruiting classes, but those guys have not all gone through the system yet. We have more NFL talent on D this year than we have had since the mid-80's. And it is improving.

Yet when Crowton was losing, we were still putting 3 to 5 players a year in the league. Anyway, once these players start making it in the NFL, the recruiting will get even better.

Our recruiting will only improve as the Mormon population continues to grow. We are almost solely reliant on that.

He kicks some heini and makes a strong impression, sports writers I hope you finally learned your lesson. There is no other, there is no better, the choice for Heisman, is Ty Detmer!

I was expecting him to go Wisconsin. You could tell that is where his heart was. Not a huge loss. We have a lot of other very talented lds/high character linebacker recruits in this class. Hopefully we can land a few of them.

Just means that Afalava became a higher priority for BYU now. Sounds as if he is leaning PAC-12 though. I expect him to go out of state. But he is doing Junior day at BYU and summer camp, so have 2 shots to land him.



The in-state kids--Hinds, Hansen and Afalava need to be a priority. We need to get 2 of 3, all 3 if possible.
