Obama to Honor Auburn Football

He is even having Auburn's head coach talking to youth at the White House...

This seems pretty fitting. A guy that has broken every promise he has ever made honoring a team that has broken every rule in the book.

This happens every year. I don't recall anyone getting upset that Bush Jr. congratulated the USC team that is responsible for them now being on probation.

What's funny is that the republican party is in such a sorry state that he's going to walk into another term with relative ease as the GOP nominee is almost assuredly coming from the Huckabee/Trump/Palin/Bachmann/Gingritch (and not Romney) pool. Just like the Republicans in 04 should have made it easy for the Democrats to push through with a winning candidate, the Democrats of 12 are doing the same for the Republicans. 2004's John Kerry will be 2012's Huckabee and the Dems will laugh as loud to themselves as the Republicans surely did in 04.

Romney at least looks, acts and talks Presidential, while the others do not--by a mile. He has polish. The rest lack it politically.

Romney is a step up from most anyone out there, but Michelle Bachman > Romney.

Now, I'd take them both on a ticket in a heartbeat.

Also, Rick Santorum is better than anyone currently running. I wish Chris Christie would run... But no, he wants to "stay out his term" and "finish the job he was elected to do." I mean, what kind of crap is that?

Every time you post, I count my lucky stars, but you are very wrong here... Romney would be great from an economical standpoint. I think he would do a great job as President. But he is far from the only legitimate, conservative candidate. The "Huckabee's and McCain's" of the world don't have a chance anymore on a republican ticket.

Huckabee is nothing but a Goofy liberal wearing a red tie. He will get a lot of "one issue" voters. (He is very strong on anti-abortion, whoopee... So is Anne Coulter.) On just about everything else he is a lib. He claims to be for businesses, and the working class, etc. but he raises taxes every year as Governor. That just doesn't mesh.

I'm all for Romney if he is the clear front runner, but I am also all in for Bachmann and Santorum.

(I need to stay away from this thread... :whistle: )

I have no problem with any President of the United States doing this. In fact, I like it. They have all of the champions of the major sports come to the White House. Big freaking deal.

Also, byutx is right. The same vitriol and prejudice about Mormon's is still out there in the Republican Party, especially in the extremists in that party. The extremists are also the ones that show up to vote in the primaries and caucases. If Romney somehow makes it out of the primaries, he probably wins the general election (might have last time too).

I am not a Democrat (nor Republican for that matter), but I don't see why so many people in the church are so devoted to the Republican party. They (the GOP) continually discredit the church and even attack it on a RELIGIOUS basis. At least Democrats tend to attack us on a moral basis because they disagree with policies and ideas, but they don't attack the very basis of what we are, Christians.

Thanks for the kind words, B.I.B. To be clear, I think Romney should be the guy. What I'm saying is that I don't think he's got a realistic chance at the nomination.

Yeah, if knowing the constitution (and abiding by it) is "one-note" and "not very bright," then I guess you are right. I'm not saying she's got my vote hands down, I'll vote Mitt if he has a clear chance of winning, as he would be a very good president, and a pretty good representative of our church. But Mitt is a little too moderate for my ultra-conservative individualistic-ness, and I just worry about that. Mitt is not a BAD candidate by any means. There just might be better, and there might not. If there is a better candidate, then that is a great thing for America because Mitt is already pretty good.

A Mitt/Michelle ticket would be pretty unbeatable.

I'm not a big fan of Michelle Bachman myself, but that's probably because I live within a few miles of her district and have to listen her all the time. Bachman's not even the best candidate in her own state--I'd much prefer Tim Pawlenty, who always came across as charismatic, bright, and polished in his weekly radio call-in show.

Auburn is not a national champ. And the President shouldn't be honoring cheaters. Two fair points I think.

I wouldn't honor UConn either. Cheaters. No one is forcing him to, it's his choice whether he does or doesn't. What message does he want to send to America's youth, that winning is the only thing that matters, or that rules are important?

This could be a tough call on the President. On one hand it's tradition to bring in the Champs and get very little crying foul. On the other hand, he could not invite Auburn to the White House and get many crying foul.

He has to pick his poison.

Or he could bring Auburn to DC and teach them about honesty and integrity. But being the politician he is (I'm not bagging on Obama here, just the way things are done in DC) you could pull a youth out of a sacrament meeting and get more substance on that topic.

Agreed. Pawlenty is a stud. I don't think he has the name recognition to go very far. I will be pleased if he does. Rick Santorum is my clear favorite right now, and of course, if Chris Christie ever got pulled into it, he'd have my vote hands down, no matter who was running.

I like Pawlenty, plenty. (Hey that has a nice ring to it)
