HD, BYUtv and Directv

I'm elated that BYUtv is now broadcast in HD to Utah audiences carrying Comcast. (http://www.cougarfan.com/article.asp?ArtID=69047" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;



Anybody with a clue as to whom we can email to get Directv off the dime and start broadcasting in HD, I'd appreciate it.

I've asked them about it in the past, and I just sent an e-mail (thanks for the suggestion). I just made the decision to stick with them, and would love to have the HD available. I was going to move to cable, but they don't carry BYUtv at all.

Oh, didn't know that Directv didn't broadcast BYUtv in HD. I'll definitely send them a note.

Do the same for Dish everyone.

Does anyone not named Comcast in Utah carry the HD feed? I'm sure that given time all the Mormons with directv will email and they'll pick it up. Hopefully in time for the football season.

BYUTV HD is broadcast over-the-air for free already, practically everyone in the wasatch front area should be able to get the signal. So even if you don't have comcast (like me) you can watch in HD if you buy a simple bunny ears antenna. If directv doesn't pick up the HD feed I'll record the game on directv in SD, but actually watch the game over-the-air in HD.

I wonder if the church satellite feed broadcasts an HD feed. In the past you could go onto the BYUtv website and get the coordinates of where to point your C-band satellite so as to get BYU free-through-air anywhere in the world.



I think a good write-in campaign will inspire the satellite providers to carry the HD stream. It sounds like it's broadcast at little or no cost.

Are we supposed to start bothering our tv providers again for something. I thought that went away with the mtn.

That's what I was thinking. The irony of having a supposedly world class HD set-up and not having it broadcast in HD is really, really sad.

BYUtv is being broadcast in hd just not on all carriers. Not unlike dozens of other channels. Besides if nothing else SD broadcasts are available everywhere and hd is available online anywhere.

As hawkwing mentions, HD is available online, so it might be worth finding a computer with HDMI outputs. In addition to the mobile apps BYUtv is developing, I'd like to see them develop apps for popular wi-fi enabled blu-ray players (e.g., Sony BD/PS3 and Samsung).

Don't forget you can also get adapters to connect other ports to HDMI cords----things like this:

Actually, yes I do have another question. Why isn't BYUtv carried in HD? Is there a huge expense for Directv to do this? You'd probably get a bunch more subscribers. BYU has a huge following, especially for its sports. And the campus has HD capacity in its studios and in a mobile HD truck/trailer.

I am not currently a subscriber, but this fall I will be in the market for an HD digital TV provider that can provide the most access possible to BYU football and sports.



As you already know, BYUtv offers its programming to providers for free. Prior to 2011 BYUtv was mostly used for broadcasting Mormon programming to over 5 million Mormons in the USA and over 6 million outside the USA over the internet. In 2011 the BYU football team will become independent and will broadcast all football and basketball on ESPN, ABC, and BYUtv. BYUtv is becoming much more than a "devotional" channel. Please understand that going forward it will have a heavy sports presence with 120 live broadcasts of BYU sports in the coming year (August 2011-July 2012), a weekly sports program, potential pre-game, halftime, and post-game halftime shows, and so on. That's a big reason to pick it up. And BYUtv will provide its HD feed to providers for FREE! Please pick this up so I
