Jabari Parker is LDS

BYU just produced the 2011 POY and ran to the sweet 16. There are a number of schools on Jabari's offer list who didn't even got THAT far.



Do you think our chances to land him improved after our run this season? Do you think they were hurt with the Davies scandal?



FInally, if he chooses to go somewhere else, is he going to get the Ben Olson treatment for not coming to the "LDS school" like he was "Supposed" to?

Ben Olsen got the treatment he deserved for being a liar. If Jabari says he's coming to BYU and then doesn't then he'll get the same treatment for also being a liar. If he never comes to BYU, then BYU fans will wish him well and move on.



BYU's chances with this kid comes down to one decision. Does he want to live the Honor Code?



The Cougs showed this year that you can get a top seed in the NCAAs, be the National Player of the Year, and make the Sweet 16. Just about everything you want accomplish as a collegiate athlete you can do here in Provo.



But if you don't want to live the Honor Code you don't need to consider BYU. If you think you might be able to, then you should consider BYU because you can be on an elite team here.

Really? I'm glad no BYU fan has ever changed their mind...I guess that is really called lying? I haven't heard very many fans wish Chris Burgess well since he chose not to go to BYU.

That statement is wrong in so many ways. You can't accuse him of not wanting to live the Honor Code just because he might choose NOT to come to BYU. Lots of LDS athletes choose not to go to BYU and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with them not wanting to live the Honor Code.

A player also has to consider position availability and system. It doesn't do him any good to play at a school where the system doesn't fit his style or there is a back log of players at his position. If the kid choices to come to BYU great, if not that is a choice he should be free to make without judgment on why or why not!

Making a commitment to a program to the point that they do all their recruiting for two years based around your decision and then switching at the last minute is not simply "changing your mind." I suppose keeping promises, living up to your word, and keeping your commitments is not something you teach your children, I feel bad for them.

The honor code has nothing to do with it. This is about Sonny Parker (dad) and his desire to get Jabari to a name school that can win a national championship or two.

Sonny is not LDS and BYU is not high on his list.



Maybe ESPN and the emergence of Nick Emery and TJ Haws (as BYU will have top 10 talent in the future) will help but it's just as possible that BYU heading to the WCC will hurt as it's nowhere close to their stomping grounds.



It's going to be between his home town school Illinois, Duke then Ohio State then Kentucky.

Sonny and Jabari woudl have to have a real change of heart to come to BYU. I hope they do, but I'm not holding my breath, but the honor code isn't the problem.



Jabari also has a life long best friend, who is not a D1 cailber basketball player, is not LDS, but wants to play college hoops and wants to be close to Jabari and vice-versa. I think they'll make a decision based on promixity for their friendship too.



I'll say this, Jabari is a really smart player and will be solid in college, but he's without a position right now in the NBA, so i don't get the talk that he's the best in his class. He's not athletic enough for the 3 in the league and will never be big enough for the 4; so I'm not sure where the hype is coming from as the best player in the country. He's really really good but he does have some visible weaknesses in his game.

I'm glad you know how I raise my children. I guess you feel this way about the kids that have committed to, then left other schools and come to BYU? This would apply to all the transfers BYU just received as well. They are surly not keeping promises, living up to their word and/or commitments that they made. Those original coaches spent a lot of recruiting hours and time and expected them to stay there. Your logic has to go both ways.

Olsen got the treatment because he came to BYU, then left.



Jabari has not made any promises to BYU or anyone else at this point.

And Olsen in his last interview told BYU fans not to worry because he was coming back to BYU.

Sonny does not favor BYU... the honor code is an ancillary issue here. Jabari from all reports is a really good kid. I've spoken to the mother of his best friend, and I have no doubt that the honor code is not an issue at all. Sonny Parker and his blessing, is.



Sonny wants his son close at a "name" school.



Sonny coaches AAU teams and has interest in parlaying his son's attention into more attention into coaching for himself, etc.



Sonny is not LDS, however, he is a an active Christian and posts Bible verses on his fb page on a weekly basis. From all reports is a very good and decent man, but BYU is not high on his list.



The honor code is not the problem, to speak of it as so, is to take attention off the real issue.



I'll say this again though, while I haven't seen Parker in person, I have seen him play several times on ESPN and on videos and he does not blow me away as a future college all-american. he's going to be really good and he's got a very high hoops IQ, but his athleticism and size limit him at the next level. He's a tweener at the 3/4.

He'll be really really good, but I don't think he'll be great unless he's surrounded by great players. Something Sonny Parker knows having been in the NBA and around college all americans and NBA players.

Interesting argument. Will Jabari look better surrounded by "great" recruits at a big name program or "good" players at BYU? May be my blue goggles, but I think his chances of being an all american are 100% at BYU (probably still high at other places if he has the right coach). If he really is a 3-4 tweener as far as position goes, wouldn't he be more likely to dominate as a 4 in the WCC versus other conferences or even teams that have more big men. Also, wouldn't he benefit from Rose's wide open offensive style. Brandon Davies showed what can happen in that system if we have a somewhat talented/athletic big man. I think Jabari could take that to another level with plenty of 20/20 nights on points/boards.

That's where I'm at with this too.



But then I'd never have believe at this time last year that we would have a player that would have been the POY in all the whole country, so weirder things have happened.

I don't know. Did he give an interview before his mission telling all Aggie fans he was coming back to Logan? If so, then yes he is.

So...... any news on Jabari lately? How much does it help that BYU is going to be playing a tournament in Chicago next year? Was that a coincidence or is Rose really gunning for Parker?

Supposedly there was a tweet by Jabari where he talked about how much he loved going to church on Sundays. Don't know if that means BYU might be more of an option than we thought. But if you enjoy going to church, BYU is a good place to keep that feeling.
